NCAA Football Betting Online: The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets aren’t among the best teams in college football, but they’ve been staggeringly consistent. Georgia Tech has made a bowl games in all but one year dating back all the way to 1997, and won the TaxSlayer Bowl over the Kentucky Wildcats in 2016.
The Yellow Jackets finished last season 9-4 and while they have some talent returning, the projections have them dipping down in the 2017 regular season. Georgia Tech’s biggest challenge will be replacing quarterback Justin Thomas, who finished last season throwing for 1,559 yards with eight touchdowns and only two interceptions while adding 604 rushing yards and six more scores.
The front-runner to replace Thomas is junior Matthew Jordan, who stepped in to help pull an upset of Virginia Tech last season and must hold off Lucas Johnson and Jay Jones for the starting gig. No matter who is behind center, the Yellow Jackets will rely plenty on running back Dedrick Mills, who had 771 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns a season ago as a freshman.
The defense has some talent coming back but it must replace Patrick Gamble, the defensive tackle that had 54 tackles and 7.5 sacks a season ago. Much of Georgia Tech’s hopes in 2017 will center on how well it absorbs the loss of Thomas and Gamble.

In an age of air-it-out offenses, the Yellow Jackets continue to buck the trend by going with a run-heavy approach, and it has been successful for them. Georgia Tech isn’t going to regularly compete with the Clemsons and Florida States in the ACC but it has found a niche as a solid program which can sneak into the top-25 national rankings during a good year.
Georgia Tech has a talented running back and experienced receivers returning in 2017, but without a great quarterback the ceiling won’t be too high. The Yellow Jackets hope to return to yet another bowl game this season, and that seems like a solid goal as competing for a conference championship isn’t as realistic this year.
