2017-NCAAF-Louisiana-Lafayette-Ragin-Cajuns-Betting-OddsNCAA Football Betting Online: The past two seasons have been a little disappointing for the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns. After four consecutive 9-4 campaigns that ended in New Orleans Bowl victories, the Ragin’ Cajuns have finished each of the last two years with losing records. Fans are optimistic for a turnaround coming into this season though. Both lines stand to be pretty good and if quarterback Jordan Davis can make the leap, this team has an outside chance to compete for the Sun Belt.

Davis has yet to start a college game, but has at least seen action in both of the previous seasons. He fits head coach Mark Hudspeth’s system as a mobile quarterback and has looked accurate enough in spring ball. Davis has had two years to learn the offense and should be able to be productive in 2017.

When Louisiana-Lafayette is at its best under Hudspeth, the running game has been great. From 2011 to 2014, the team averaged at least 5.7 yards per carry every year and that was the catalyst for at least nine wins.

The Ragin’ Cajuns won’t have a lot of experience at running back, but do have a solid offensive line that will open up holes. Four of five starters from last year return to that unit and both tackles are highly experienced seniors. They should be able to maul the undersized defensive fronts that most Sun Belt schools possess.

The linebackers are the big question mark on this defense. The defensive line has seniors starting all along the front and the secondary returns all its starters from last season. However, the linebackers are largely inexperienced with the exception of sophomore Joe Dillon who was a regular starter in 2016. He will be asked to lead this season.

Overtime wasn’t kind to Louisiana-Lafayette last year. In back-to-back weeks, they lost multiple overtime games on the road to Tulane and New Mexico State and were flat out dead the next week against Appalachian State. The Ragin’ Cajuns looked better at the end of the season though, with outright wins as underdogs against Georgia Southern and Arkansas State and a dominating victory over Louisiana-Monroe to close the regular season.

Mark Hudspeth is the only coach in program history with a winning record. Hudspeth is 46-31 in six seasons as the coach at Louisiana-Lafayette and has taken this team to all five of its bowl appearances.

This program loves the Big Easy. All five of their bowl appearances have been at the New Orleans Bowl and they have a record of 4-1 there. They fill the Superdome like no other Sun Belt team and this bowl will choose them any time it can.

Non-conference play will be tough for the Ragin’ Cajuns. They will be big underdogs on the road against Tulsa, Texas A&M, and Ole Miss. The Sun Belt didn’t do the team any favors either with road games against conference favorites Appalachian State and Arkansas State in conference play. There is no margin for error if they want to get back to a bowl.
