BMW PGA Championship Golf Betting OddsEuropean Tour Golf Betting Odds: The PGA Championship is one of the four majors of the year on the PGA Tour calendar, but don't confuse that for the BMW PGA Championship on the Euro PGA Tour. Sure, the European version of this event doesn’t have quite the prestige of the major edition played later in the summer, but this event in May is one of the richest events on the calendar of the European PGA Tour with a prize purse of $7 million.

All of the action at the BMW PGA Championship will take place from Thursday, May 25 through Sunday, May 28, 2018.

2018 BMW PGA Championship At a Glance
Course: Wentworth Club, Virginia Water, Surrey, England
Par: 288
Course Length: 7,302 yards
Defending Champion: Chris Wood
Tournament Record: -21 (266)

There was a point that the BMW PGA Championship was played in rotating venues. But in 1984, the tournament then known as the Whyte & Mackay PGA Championship was moved to the Wentworth Club, and that's where it has been since that point. There are years where Wentworth Club plays relatively and scores will be posted in the high-teens. Then again, there are years that Wentworth Club plays incredibly difficult, and most of the field fails to even break par.

If you want further proof of that, just consider the fact that Luke Donald won this tournament in 2011 at -6, and he went on to win it the next year at -15.

List of BMW PGA Championship Winners (Since 2000)

Year Winner Score to Par
2016 Chris Wood -9
2015 An Byeong-hun -21
2014 Rory McIlroy -14
2013 Matteo Manassero -10
2012 Luke Donald -15
2011 Luke Donald -6
2010 Simon Khan -6
2009 Paul Casey -17
2008 Miguel Angel Jimenez -11
2007 Anders Hansen -8
2006 David Howell -17
2005 Angel Cabrera -15
2004 Scott Drummond -19
2003 Ignacio Garrido -18
2002 Anders Hansen -19
2001 Andrew Oldcorn -16
2000 Colin Montgomerie -17

England has been on a massive tear over the course of the last decade in the BMW PGA Championship. Chris Wood won this tourney last year, and he is the fifth different Brit since 2006 to win the BMW PGA Championship. Furthermore, at least one player from England has finished first or second in this tournament dating all the way back to 2006 with the exception of in 2015.

That 2015 season was especially notable for a number of reasons. An Byeong-hun became the first Asian to win the BMW PGA Championship. In the process, he also put up the best score in the history of this event and had the third biggest winning margin ever.

Most Career Wins at BMW PGA Championship

Wins Golfer Years
4 Nick Faldo 1978, 1980, 1981, 1989
3 Peter Alliss 1957, 1962, 1965
3 Bernhard Langer 1987, 1993, 1995
3 Colin Montgomerie 1998, 1999, 2000

The BMW PGA Championship dates all the way back to 1955. The first dominant golfer in the history of this tournament was Peter Alliss, a man who won this event in 1957, 1962 and 1965 to become the first two-time winner and three-time winner. In fact, no man won three editions of the BMW PGA Championship again until Nick Faldo captured three out of four titles in 1978, 1980 and 1981. Faldo went on to become the only four-time winner of the BMW PGA Championship by adding the 1989 title to the mix.

Bernhard Langer was the third three-time champion of the BMW PGA Championship, while Colin Montgomerie became the only man to ever win the tourney three straight years, doing so in 1998, 1999 and 2000.

Best Winning Tournament Scores at BMW PGA Championship

Score Golfer Year
-21 (267) An Byeong-hun 2015
-19 (269) Scott Drummond 2004
-19 (269) Anders Hansen 2002
-18 (270) Ignacio Garrido 2003
-18 (270) Colin Montgomerie 1999
-18 (270) Bernhard Langer 1987

If you go back to the olden days of the BMW PGA Championship, you'll see a lot of winners who either didn't break par or barely did so. Heck, the great Nick Faldo won the tournament then known as the Sun Alliance PGA Championship with a +3 score at Royal St. George's Golf Club, while Arnold Palmer won this event in 1975 at +5.

But only one man has ever managed to shoot -20 or better in the history of the BMW PGA Championship. An Byeong-hun fired a -21, 267 in 2015 to set the tournament record, and he won that tournament by a whopping six shots and left zero doubt as to whether he would pick up his first ever European PGA Tour victory.

How to bet on BMW PGA CHAMPIONSHIP

The odds of a golfer to win the BMW PGA CHAMPIONSHIP will generally look something like:

  • Tiger Woods + 150
  • Phil Mickelson + 250
  • Steve Stricker + 300
  • Jeff Overton + 700
  • Ernie Els + 700
  • Field + 600

These betting odds will be lower when betting on a golfer to finish in the top three, as the sportsbook must pay off three different winning bets.

A player would have to bet $10 to win $150 that Tiger Woods will win the BMW PGA CHAMPIONSHIP, while the bettor wagering on Jeff Overton stands to win $70 on their $10 wager.

Another commonly placed bet in European Golf golf is head-to-head finish between two players. With this bet, a player doesn't really care what place the golfer finishes in, as long as the golfer wagered on finishes higher than the other golfer.

A head-to-head betting line for the BMW PGA CHAMPIONSHIP will look something like:

  • Tiger Woods - 190 Steve Stricker + 150

In this bet, players wagering on Woods to finish higher than Stricker will be asked to risk $19 to win $10, while bettors believing that Stricker will finish higher than Woods will bet $10 to win $15.

Those familiar with sports betting will have no trouble making the transition to European Golf golf wagering, while those new to the world of sports betting should be able to pick up the concepts of European golf betting without to much trouble.
