The Albatross Golf Resort in Prague will be the home to the first event on the European PGA Tour calendar after the Olympics are said and done with. The D+D REAL Czech Masters kicks off on Thursday, August 18 and wraps up on Sunday, August 21, and though this event figures to be one of the lighter attended Tour stops in terms of the top players due to the Olympics being played in Rio de Janeiro just a few days before, there will inevitably be a strong field hoping to get into the win column at a fabulous course in Prague.
Czech Masters Championship Preview
Thomas Pieters is favored to win the D+D Real Czech Masters this week on the European Tour. This event goes up against the start of the FedExCup Playoffs in the United States, so the field is extremely weak. Pieters is listed as the favorite at odds of +700 and then it is Eddie Pepperell listed at odds of +1800. The field is so poor that Danny Willett is actually the co-third choice in the betting odds at +2500. Let’s look at the odds and predictions for the D+D Real Czech Masters. More
This European Tour stop doesn't have a heck of a lot of history, as this is just the third time the event has been played. The common thread in the two seasons is that scores have been incredibly low across the field. Thomas Pieters won at the D+D REAL Czech Masters last year with a score of -20 over the four days, while the year prior, Welshman Jamie Donaldson picked up the win by shooting 14-under.
The par-72 course at the Albatross Golf Club plays at 7,516 yards for tournament play, and some of its par-5s are reachable only for the biggest hitters, including a 639-yard hole and a 603-yard hole on either side of the turn, two of the four par-5s which the Albatross Golf Club has to offer.
However, longer holes don't necessarily mean more difficult holes, especially as players on both the PGA Tour and the European PGA Tour continue to blast drives longer and longer. That's why the winning score is virtually certain to be at least 12-under par, so even golfers who are within four or five shots heading into the last day of the event are going to be in it with a number of big birdie and eagle opportunities to take advantage of.
