2016 European Open PredictionsEuropean Tour Golf Betting Odds: The European Open was always known as one of the top events on the European PGA Tour before it was suddenly canceled in 2010. However, the tournament was revived last year as the Porsche European Open and is now once again a welcome tour stop for the European players.

Since Porsche has taken over as the title sponsor of the European Open, it has been situated at the Beckenbauer Course of the Golf Resort Bad Griesbach in Germany. That hasn't always been the case, though. England, Scotland and Ireland have all held the European Open in the past, and the day might very well come that one of those nations ultimately gets the tournament back.

For now though, the Porsche European Open will stay on German soil. This year's event will begin on Thursday, September 22 and will wrap up with the final day of play on Sunday, September 25.

There aren't a ton of golf events held in Germany with regularity, though the European PGA Tour does make a stop in Pulheim every year for the BMW International Open, an event won by Henrik Stenson earlier in the 2016 season. The fact that this is just the second tournament held at the Golf Resort Bad Griesbach makes this a little unpredictable for sure. That was the case last year as well when Thai golfer, Thongchai Jaidee won the event by a stroke over Graeme Storm by shooting a -17 267.

Though history doesn't necessarily mean a ton when it comes to handicapping the European Open, there hasn't been a repeat winner of this event since 2000 when Lee Westwood captured his second title. Since then, it's been nothing but first-time winners, including Jaidee last year. Jaidee also became the first non-European winner of the European Open since Retief Goosen in 2004, and he's the first ever Asian winner of the event.

How to bet on European Open

The odds of a golfer to win the European Open will generally look something like:

  • Tiger Woods + 150
  • Phil Mickelson + 250
  • Steve Stricker + 300
  • Jeff Overton + 700
  • Ernie Els + 700
  • Field + 600

These betting odds will be lower when betting on a golfer to finish in the top three, as the sportsbook must pay off three different winning bets.

A player would have to bet $10 to win $150 that Tiger Woods will win the European Open, while the bettor wagering on Jeff Overton stands to win $70 on their $10 wager.

Another commonly placed bet in European Golf golf is head-to-head finish between two players. With this bet, a player doesn't really care what place the golfer finishes in, as long as the golfer wagered on finishes higher than the other golfer.

A head-to-head betting line for the European Open will look something like:

  • Tiger Woods - 190 Steve Stricker + 150

In this bet, players wagering on Woods to finish higher than Stricker will be asked to risk $19 to win $10, while bettors believing that Stricker will finish higher than Woods will bet $10 to win $15.

Those familiar with sports betting will have no trouble making the transition to European Golf golf wagering, while those new to the world of sports betting should be able to pick up the concepts of European golf betting without to much trouble.
