European Tour Golf Betting Odds: If you’re looking for the best advice for golf betting, you’ve certainly come to the right place. Here at Bookmaker sportsbook we’re previewing the Joburg Open, which takes place from January 14th through January 17th, 2018 at the Royal Jhb and Kensington Golf Club in Johannesburg, South Africa, featuring Andy Sullivan, George Coetzee, Richard Sterne and Charl Schwartzel.
Andy Sullivan was the 2015 champion, finishing with a score of 17-under 270 and defeating the field by two strokes. It was only the third time in tournament history that a non-South African won this event. The English golfer has three professional wins in his career with all three coming in 2015 on the European and Sunshine tours. He captured his first professional win last January in Johannesburg, winning the South African Open Championship in a playoff against Charl Schwartzel with a birdie on the first extra hole. Sullivan’s most recent win came on October 18th when he went 23-under to win the Portugal Masters. The 28-year-old will be eager to start 2016 off with some early wins as well after his breakout season in 2015.
Other past champions at this event include George Coetzee, who won in 2014, Richard Sterne, 2008 and 2013, and Charl Schwartzel, 2010 and 2011. Coetzee has eight professional wins in his career with seven of those occurring on the Sunshine Tour and one taking place on the European Tour. The 29-year-old captured his most recent win at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open in May where he shot a 13-under and beat out Thorbjørn Olesen in a playoff with a birdie on the second extra hole. Coetzee also won the Tshwane Open last March. Sterne set a new tournament record with his victory in 2013, finishing at 27-under 260. He is still searching for his first victory since that win and has nine overall in his career. The 34-year-old has six European Tour wins, but has only won once in the past three years. Schwartzel has 13 wins in his career including one PGA Tour and major championship victory. The highlight of the South African’s professional career so far came in 2011 when he won the Masters Tournament with a score of 14-under 274, defeating Australian golfers Jason Day and Adam Scott by two strokes. His most recent win came on November 29th when he won his third Alfred Dunhill Championship in four years with a score of 15-under.
The Joburg Open is the second tournament in the 2016 schedule taking place on the Sunshine Tour and co-sanctioned by the European Tour. The tournament began in 2007 in golf betting.

How to bet on Joburg Open
The odds of a golfer to win the Joburg Open will generally look something like:
- Tiger Woods + 150
- Phil Mickelson + 250
- Steve Stricker + 300
- Jeff Overton + 700
- Ernie Els + 700
- Field + 600
These betting odds will be lower when betting on a golfer to finish in the top three, as the sportsbook must pay off three different winning bets.
A player would have to bet $10 to win $150 that Tiger Woods will win the Joburg Open, while the bettor wagering on Jeff Overton stands to win $70 on their $10 wager.
Another commonly placed bet in European Golf golf is head-to-head finish between two players. With this bet, a player doesn't really care what place the golfer finishes in, as long as the golfer wagered on finishes higher than the other golfer.
A head-to-head betting line for the Joburg Open will look something like:
- Tiger Woods - 190 Steve Stricker + 150
In this bet, players wagering on Woods to finish higher than Stricker will be asked to risk $19 to win $10, while bettors believing that Stricker will finish higher than Woods will bet $10 to win $15.
Those familiar with sports betting will have no trouble making the transition to European Golf golf wagering, while those new to the world of sports betting should be able to pick up the concepts of European golf betting without to much trouble.
