2014 Portugal Masters Winner - Alexander Levy wins trophy after the cancellation of the final round

In a tournament already reduced to 54 holes by lightning and heavy rain earlier in the week, another deluge left parts of the course unplayable shortly after the final group had teed off at 1pm.

And just after 3pm on Sunday, the European Tour announced the tournament was over, meaning Levy, who had opened with stunning rounds of 63 and 61, was declared the three-shot winner over Belgium’s Nicolas Colsaerts.

It is the Frenchman's second European Tour win following his victory at the Volvo China Open in April.

2013 Portugal Masters Winner - David Lynn claims Portugal Masters for first win since 2004

David Lynn claimed his first European Tour victory since 2004 Sunday, carding an 8-under 63 for a one-stroke triumph at the Portugal Masters. It was the second career title for Lynn and his first since taking the KLM Open nine years ago.

He finished at 18-under-par 266, one shot better than Justin Walters, who registered a final-round 5-under 66 at Oceanico Victoria Golf Club.

Overnight leader Paul Waring stumbled to an even-par 71, ending in a three-way tie for third place at 16-under with Stephen Gallacher (66) and Bernd Wiesberger (67).

Sharing sixth place one shot further back were Henne Otto (70) and Jamie Donaldson.

Ross Fisher (66), Robert-Jan Derksen (66), Chris Doak (70), Pablo Larrazabal (70) and Simon Thornton (71) knotted for eighth at 14-under.

2012 Portugal Masters Winner - Lowry proves pedigree as 'dream comes true'

SHANE Lowry's day of vindication is just the tonic for his bid to gain playing rights on the US Tour.

The 25-year-old carved his name in the history books in Portugal by becoming only the second player to win on the European Tour as an amateur and a professional.

He also put an end to the speculation by those who doubted if he had what it takes to be a winner as a pro.

Lowry believed in himself and his ability, as did his coach Neil Manchip, who is the GUI national coach, but until the Clara man could nail a professional victory, the Twitterati would have their say.

Any criticism of Lowry was unfair. It was an outstanding achievement to win the Irish Open as an amateur at Baltray in 2009 and while he couldn't accept the €500,000 first prize, the win jump-started his professional career with an exemption on Tour until the end of 2011.

By winning the Portugal Masters by a stroke from England's Ross Fisher, who succeeded Lowry as winner of the Irish Open in 2010, Lowry has once again ensured himself of a two-year exemption -- and this time he takes home a cheque for €375,000.

2011 Portugal Masters Winner - Lewis leaps 455 places in world rankings after Open star wins in third event as a professional

Tom Lewis has moved from 621st to 166th in the world rankings after his stunning victory at the Portugal Masters.

In just his third event as a professional, the 20-year-old Englishman finished off a remarkable final round 65 with four birdies in his last five holes to leapfrog two members of Europe's Ryder Cup team last year in Peter Hanson and Martin Kaymer, and a three-time winner this year in Thomas Bjorn.

For Lewis, 65 is clearly the magic number. He looked a rare talent when he jointly led The Open Championship in July following just such a score in the opening round at Royal St George's.

This, however, was something else. To put this victory in perspective, Tiger Woods won his first pro tournament in his fifth start, while Rory McIlroy needed 38 attempts.

This was an afternoon that changed everything with regard to Lewis's immediate future. At the start of his round it was odds-on that he was heading for the qualifying school in December to try to earn a card to play on tour next year, an experience he admitted he was ‘dreading.'

Five hours of brilliance later, and the man from Welwyn Garden City who never cared much for school can forget all about the golfing version as well, for not only does this victory earn him playing privileges for next year, but the one after that.
