European Tour Golf Betting Odds: Match play in golf is about as exciting as it gets. Anyone can overcome a bad day at the office as long as his day is better than the man he's up against, and even the worst holes only count against you as one loss instead of ruining your entire day of work.
Just last year, Scottish folk hero, Paul Lawrie created his own match play event, the Paul Lawrie Match Play, and the big time players on the European PGA Tour flocked to join the field of 64.
The 2015 edition of the Paul Lawrie Match Play was won by Kiradech Aphibarnat from Thailand over Robert Karlsson.
The problem the Paul Lawrie Match Play has this year is that it's being held just a week before the Olympics in Brazil. The tournament runs from Thursday, August 4 through Sunday, August 7. Though it's tempting for many to go out to the Archerfield Links in Scotland, anyone who is eligible to play in the Olympics is sure to have second thoughts about playing in a match play tournament the week before one of the biggest weeks of their lives, especially knowing that it will take six rounds of golf instead of four to win the event.
The format of the Paul Lawrie Match Play is tough for even the greatest of golfers on a course which tends to be on the more difficult side. All 64 players will be on the links on Thursday, and the winners of those 32 individual matchups will play again on Friday. The winners from there will be asked to play early in the morning on Saturday, then again in the afternoon if they triumph, and there will be two sets of matches on Sunday to determine the title as well. That's a heck of a lot of golf to be played over just four days, and some players have already address concerns about that heading into the Olympics played halfway across the world just four days later.
How to bet on the Paul Lawrie Matchplay
The odds of a golfer to win the Paul Lawrie Matchplay will generally look something like:
Tiger Woods + 150
Phil Mickelson + 250
Steve Stricker + 300
Jeff Overton + 700
Ernie Els + 700
Field + 600
These betting odds will be lower when betting on a golfer to finish in the top three, as the sportsbook must pay off three different winning bets.
A player would have to bet $10 to win $150 that Tiger Woods will win the Paul Lawrie Matchplay, while the bettor wagering on Jeff Overton stands to win $70 on their $10 wager.
Another commonly placed bet in European Golf golf is head-to-head finish between two players. With this bet, a player doesn't really care what place the golfer finishes in, as long as the golfer wagered on finishes higher than the other golfer.
A head-to-head betting line for the Paul Lawrie Matchplay will look something like:
Tiger Woods - 190 Steve Stricker + 150
In this bet, players wagering on Woods to finish higher than Stricker will be asked to risk $19 to win $10, while bettors believing that Stricker will finish higher than Woods will bet $10 to win $15.
Those familiar with sports betting will have no trouble making the transition to European Golf golf wagering and Golf Articles, while those new to the world of sports betting should be able to pick up the concepts of European golf betting without to much trouble.
