Today, we'll take a look at Paraguay and its odds of winning this top South American competition.
Back in the late-90s and through the early 2010s, Paraguay was one of the tougher sides to knock out of these international tournaments from South America. The club reached the World Cup four times in a row, getting out of the group stage in three of those four tournaments, and it was a quarterfinalist six times out of seven from 1993 through 2007 in Copa America.
However, after finishing as the runners-up in this tournament in Argentina in 2011, the Paraguayans fell off the face of the earth and really had to rebuild.
The final failure came when the team finished dead last in CONMEBOL qualifying for the 2014 World Cup. Paraguay was since a semifinalist in Copa America 2015 and is starting to pick up the pieces headed into the centennial celebration of this tournament.

PARAGUAY PROFILE
Odds To Win Copa America: +5000
Team Nickname: La Albirroja
Head Coach: Ramon Diaz
FIFA World Ranking: 39
HOW THEY GOT HERE
Paraguay hasn't been in the best form of late, but at least it has a good tournament last year in Copa America to fall back on. The club made it to the last eight after getting five points from the group stage, and it pulled off the biggest upset of the tournament by beating Brazil in penalties.
Of course, the argument could be made that that was the beginning of the end as well for La Albirroja. They were crushed 6-1 by Argentina in the semifinals and then 2-0 by Peru in the third place match. Since then, the team has gone just 2-3-1 in World Cup qualifiers and lost a friendly on the road at Chile.
The results haven't been good for sure, but Paraguay does at least have a few results which have turned out to be better than you'd think heading into Copa America.
KEY PLAYERS
Dario Lezcano has been the best player on the pitch for Paraguay for the most part in recent matches. The 25-year old forward has three goals in his last two games for his nation, but we're not all that sure he's going to get the call to start in this tournament or to be a sub.
The one big concern we have is the lack of experience in the midfield. There isn’t a single player available for Paraguay which has played on any of the huge teams in Europe or in South America, and no one has more than one goal for this country in his career either.
At the back, Paulo da Silva is going to have one more run in him. He's 36 years old now, but he's still wearing the captain's armband in spite of the fact that his form hasn't always been the greatest. Da Silva will be critical at the back as the only defender on the roster in all likelihood over the age of 30.
COPA AMERICA ODDS ANALYSIS AND QUICK PICK
Paraguay has that price of 50 to 1 on its head to win this tournament with good reason. Even though strides have been taken to make this one of the better teams in South America once again, we just don't see it coming into Copa America.
What could the ceiling possibly be for a team which has to play against the United States, Colombia and Costa Rica? Four points? Maybe five?
We see upsets all the time at this level, but this is just going to be too much for Paraguay, especially having to play this tournament in the United States. Last year's run was nice, but we'd be surprised if La Albirrroja finished anywhere but last in Group A.
