Germany 2020 UEFA Euro Betting
It’s been an interesting last couple years for Germany. The 2014 World Cup champions made it to the semifinals of the last European Championships, but they had their worst international performance ever at the 2018 World Cup. They failed to advance out of the Group Stage, losing to Mexico and South Korea. Germany has since suffered a 6-0 beatdown at the hands of Spain in November and lost a World Cup qualifier at home to North Macedonia, so there are more questions about this team than there have been for decades.

How They Got Here
Germany had no trouble qualifying for EURO 2020. The Germans were placed into the same group as the Netherlands, and those teams were clearly the class of their qualifying group. The Netherlands managed to upend Germany on the road for the country’s lone loss during qualifying, but the Germans picked up wins in their other seven games. Unfortunately, they were drawn into the Group of Death and now stand a real chance of not making it to the knockout rounds.
Team Preview
Typically, the Germans boast some of the best attacking talent in the world. We’ve seen legends like Miroslav Klose, Lukas Podolski, and Mesut Ozil shine for Germany in the recent past, but there is not a bonafide playmaker on the roster this summer. Serge Gnabry has been brilliant in limited action with 15 goals in 20 matches, and Timo Werner has the makings of a future star, but there isn’t a dyed in the wool No. 9. That has Joachim Low considering Thomas Muller for selection although he was unceremoniously dropped by Low two years ago.
There are a lot more options in the midfield. Toni Kroos is set to star once again, and there are reports that this will be his last international tournament with Germany. Julian Brandt and Julian Draxler haven’t been called up since last year, but they could play a role with the national team. Ilkay Gundogan is extremely underrated for what he does with Manchester City, and Bayern Munich staples Joshua Kimmich, Leroy Sane, and Leon Goretzka cold all see a lot of time.
Germany might be the weakest they have ever been in the back line. The losses to Spain and North Macedonia showed that, as there are not a lot of great options this summer. Emre Can, Antonio Rudiger, Philipp Max, and Matthias Ginter could all see a lot of minutes, but it’s hard to find a defender that you unequivocally trust.
Fortunately, captain Manuel Neuer is back in net. Neuer is nearing the end of his career, but he is one of the best goalkeepers of his generation. He will reach 100 caps for Germany at this summer’s event.

Germany’s History at the European Championships
The four-time World Cup champions have also won the European Championship three times. That makes Germany the most decorated international team on the continent, and the Germans will look for another trophy in July.
Germany was a powerhouse in the 1970s, making it to the finals of the 1972, 1976, and 1980 Euros. We saw Germany win it all in 1972, finish runner-up to Czechoslovakia in 1976, and win once again in 1980. They had a disappointing result at the 1984 Euros, but they were back to their high play soon enough.
This country made it to the semifinals of the 1988 Euros and finished runner-up to Denmark in 1992. Germany added its third European title in 1996, knocking off Croatia, England, and the Czech Republic on their way to another trophy. Oliver Bierhoff was the hero of the final with both goals, including the winner in the 95th minute.
The Germans have made it to the semifinals of the last three Euros. They finished runner-up to giants Spain in 2008, and they were bounced by Italy in the semifinals of the 2012 Euros. They appeared poised for a run in 2016 following their World Cup performance, but they fell to hosts France in the semis.
