HOW THEY GOT HERE
Qualifying for the Euros was odd, to say the least for the Tri-Colors. They didn't allow a single goal on the road along the way to Northern Ireland, Hungary, Finland, Greece or the Faroe Islands, and that's why they got into this tournament.
Of course, there's still a big concern about where this team is offensively. The fact that Romania struggled to ensure itself of qualifying for this tournament in spite of the fact that it allowed just two goals in 10 matches was a big concern. The Romanians only scored 11 times, three of which came in one match against the Faroe Islands on the road. Eight goals in nine fixtures aside from that though, is a really bad sign going forward in a competition such as this.
KEY PLAYERS
The biggest question surrounding this Romanian team is where the goals are going to come from. Just go ahead and look up and down this roster and look for an elite talent who can find the back of the net against a team like Germany or Italy or England or France. You're probably not going to find much.
Gabriel Torje is probably the most likely threat to find the back of the net out of the midfield. He's creative in his ways with his 10 goals in 46 matches played for his homeland in his career, but the fact that he plays his club soccer at Osmanlispor instead of one of the bigger sides in the world is a massive concern.
Then again, there aren't many who have even tasted the knockout rounds in the Champions League at the club level. Alexandru Matel plays for Dinamo Zagreb, while first-team goalie Ciprian Tatarusanu is a strong keeper for Fiorentina, but aside from that, most of the men on this either play domestically in the very weak Romanian soccer league.

If there's one thing Romania has going for it, it's that it has been drawn into a group where it should find at least a degree of success. The Tri-Colors will get to play against Albania, arguably the weakest side in this tournament, though anything less than three points in that match would be a disaster.
Even a duel against Switzerland doesn't feel like it's too much to handle. Clearly, the Romanians are going to be shooting at six points against the Swiss and the Albanians, though that's the best case scenario. In the worst case, the team falls flat, doesn't score a single point and gets perhaps just a point to show for its efforts against Albania, a result which would see it out of the competition at the group stage.
If Romania did advance, it would very likely be as a third place team, and we just can't see this side making any noise against what would most likely be either England or Germany in the Round of 16. The Tri-Colors should be happy just to get 270 minutes of soccer in France.
