Old School Meets New School
Two of the biggest surprises in Major League Baseball will face off when the Arizona Diamondbacks host the Colorado Rockies. Both weren’t expected to compete for the postseason but they are right in the mix. This is an important series for each side as they jockey for position in the ultra-competitive National League West....
The Los Angeles Dodgers have the look of one of the best teams in the major leagues, and they are preparing for a series against one of the worst. Even though they are going on the road, the Dodgers should be favored to win the series over the San Diego Padres....
The Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets will square off over a three-game series this weekend. This is not a headliner series given their terrible winning percentages, but with the Trade Deadline a month away, both could be fun to watch given their respective trade chips. For now, these two teams are battling to stay out of the cellar in the NL East; New York has a significant lead in that....
A series against the White Sox is just what the struggling New York Yankees needed. The Bronx Bombers grabbed a couple wins and will now go into their series with the Major League leading Houston Astros in a three-game set starting on Friday. The Yankees have not been a good road team this year and will be playing a team that took three of four against them in New York earlier this year....
The Giants will head to Pittsburgh to play the Pirates riding a three-game winning streak, a small sliver of joy in a season in which they have a 30-51 record. Pittsburgh is six games under .500 itself but is only four games back in the National League Central. The trading deadline is coming soon, and the Giants will certainly be sellers if they have some players others are interested in at the right price. The Pirates are hoping to prove they can still make the playoffs, but they need to do well in this series and in the next few weeks to sell that point to the front office....
The Rays have been the better team this season but Baltimore has the home field advantage, so that makes things pretty even. Baltimore manages to miss Tampa Bay ace Chris Archer, which could make the Orioles the favorites to win this series. Both teams are in the middle of the wild card race and not too far back in the division, so each side could really use a couple wins in this matchup....

The Chicago Cubs will wrap up a three-city road trip over the weekend in Cincinnati when they take on the Cincinnati Reds in a best of three series. Chicago continues to tread water around-.500. They’ve started to make moves, sending Kyle Schwarber to Triple-A and designating Miguel Montero for assignment after calling out his teammate. It seems the honeymoon for the Cubbies after the World Series is over. Can they kick it into gear this weekend against a struggling Reds team?...
And just like that, the Boston Red Sox find themselves atop the AL East standings. On the other side, the Toronto Blue Jays are in the cellar as these two teams get set for a best of three series over the week. Of course, the separation from first to worst is 3.5-games making it a huge series for both teams as they each try and make some noise in the division....
The Rays will aim to keep pace when they hit the road for a series with the Pittsburgh Pirates this week. Pittsburgh is 35-41 on the season and has been outscored by 33 runs, but the National League Central has been so poor that it is still within striking distance of the first-place MIlwaukee Brewers. The Pirates could be sellers at the trading deadline if they fall back, so this is a critical interleague matchup for them to make some hay at home....
The Detroit Tigers have fallen nine games under .500 and seven games behind in the A.L. Central, and without a strong showing in the next few series they could become sellers at the trading deadline. This divisional matchup is crucial for both the Royals and the Tigers as they face off at the beginning of the week. This series will be contested from Tuesday, June 27 through Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan....

The Baltimore Orioles head north of the border for a showdown with the Toronto Blue Jays, each hoping to avoid being the AL East division cellar by series end. Neither team is playing great baseball, but Baltimore does come into play having taken seven of nine from Toronto. Nevertheless, the O’s are just 13-24 on the road while the Jays are 19-17 at home....
This is a bookend series of sorts for the Oakland Athletics and Houston Astros as the first place Astros host the cellar dweller Athletics in the three-game divisional series. Houston has been struggling through injuries to its rotation, but will be at home for what should be a nice easy series before getting back to the grind when the Yankees come to town over the weekend....
Washington has gotten off to a much better start this season, running away with the National League East. The Cubs have not yet hit their stride but are still the favorites to claim the National League Central. This is a heavyweight matchup and it will be fun to see two elite rosters face off. This series will be contested from Monday, June 26 through Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. All four games will be broadcast on MLB Network....
Boston is knotted up with the New York Yankees atop the American League East, while Minnesota has used a three-game winning streak to move a half-game ahead of the Cleveland Indians in the American League Central. It seems unlikely the Twins can hang around the entire season, and they will be the underdogs in this matchup on the road against Boston, even though Minnesota is a sparkling 23-9 away from home on the season. This series will be contested from Monday, June 26 through Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts. Thursday’s matchup will be televised nationally on ESPN....
The New York Yankees dropped two of three over the weekend to the Rangers and have now lost ten of their last 12 games. In addition, the Bronx Bombers have lost four straight series. The Yankees have now fallen out of the top spot in the AL East. They need to get back on track and they’ve got the perfect opposition for that, taking on the Chicago White Sox in a four-game series. Chicago has the second worst record in the AL. This series will be contested from Monday, June 26, 2017 through Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago....
Just like that, the Colorado Rockies have not only conceded the top spot in the NL West, but now sit in third place, it’s been a tough divisional stretch for Colorado who’s now lost back-to-back series against the Diamondback and Dodgers. The Rockies will stay in division for their next series, but will get to face the cellar dweller San Francisco Giants who they’ve swept in a four-game set a couple weeks ago. This series will be contested from Monday, June 26, 2017 through Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at AT&T Park in San Francisco. Monday's clash is being shown live on ESPN....
Baltimore has been in a funk of late but is also right in the mix. The Orioles need their starting pitching to hold up in order to turn the season around. While neither of these teams are likely to catch the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees in the American League East, they both feel like they can make a legitimate run at the second wild card berth. This series will be contested from Friday, June 23 through Sunday, June 25, 2017 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida....
The Cincinnati Reds hung around in the National League Central for the season’s first couple of months, but unsurprisingly, they have since fallen off and now sit in last place. They aren’t expected to improve their record in this weekend’s series as they travel to face the Washington Nationals....
The San Diego Padres, for as bad as they are, are right around .500 at home this season and they’ll host a Detroit Tigers team for three-games this weekend. The Tigers have been abysmal on the road, going 14-23. The Padres will look to take advantage of those home/road splits and capture a series upon their return home. They swept the Reds the last time they were at home....
The New York Yankees are now in a race in the AL East after a seven-game losing streak. They snapped the skid on Wednesday, but now need to mount a winning streak to regain some breathing room. The streak team will host another streaky squad over the weekend as the Texas Rangers come to town. Every time the Rangers get hot, they manage to fall back again. They were hot; now, they’ve lost three of four....
Once Chicago grabs the division lead, it’s possible it never looks back. The Cubs would love for that to be the case this weekend when it travels to Miami for a four-game set. The Marlins don’t have too bad of a run-differential and have a nice offense, but their pitching has been an issue and the playoffs don’t seem to be in the cards this season.Miami’s starters must be able to handle the Cubs offense, and Chicago will come in aiming for at least a split of these games, with three wins an ambitious yet realistic outcome if the Cubs play well....
The Diamondbacks are in a hotly-contested race with the Dodgers and Rockies for N.L. West supremacy and must keep playing well because the others are, too. The Phillies have dropped to last place in the National League East, as some of their young talent has scuffled this season. This series will be contested from Friday, June 23 through Monday, June 26, 2017 at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona....
