Three of the four No. 1 seeds in the Women’s NCAA Tournament have made it to the Final Four. North Carolina State was the only top seed that failed to make it to Minneapolis, but the Wolfpack had the misfortune of having to play UConn in nearby Bridgeport in the Elite Eight. South Carolina is favored to win it all as the top team in the country for most of the year, and the Gamecocks are significant favorites by the CBB betting odds over Louisville in the first Final Four game. Stanford and UConn won’t be pushovers though.
The 2022 Women’s Final Four will take place at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Friday, April 1. South Carolina and Louisville will square off in the first semifinal at 7 p.m. ET, while Stanford and UConn are scheduled to tip at 9:30 p.m. ET. Both games will be on ESPN, and the winners will advance to take part in the national championship game on Sunday, April 3, at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.
Women’s Final Four Betting Odds
South Carolina Gamecocks -8
Louisville Cardinals +8
Total 121
South Carolina is the best team in the nation. The Gamecocks knocked off North Carolina State, UConn, and Stanford during the regular season, giving them victories over all three of the other No. 1 seeds. Their two losses were by a combined three points, and this team was very close to going unbeaten.
Aliyah Boston has been the best player in the nation this season. Boston is averaging 16.8 PPG and 12.2 RPG while making 54.2% of her field goals. She is considered the frontrunner to be named the national player of the year, following in the footsteps of A’ja Wilson. Destanni Henderson provides everything you want out of a guard at this level, and there is a lot of size with this South Carolina team. They are looking to win their second national championship under head coach Dawn Staley.
Louisville looked the part of a No. 1 seed with impressive performances through the first two weekends of March Madness after a disappointing loss to Miami in their first ACC Tournament game. They won all four of their NCAA Tournament games by nine points or more and also knocked off UConn during the regular season.
Hailey Van Lith, Kianna Smith, and Emily Engstler are all averaging at least 11.8 PPG while making 36.4% of their threes or more for the Cardinals. Engstler is a great defender too, as she is averaging 9.4 RPG, 2.7 SPG, and 1.8 BPG. She will likely draw the assignment of having to take on Boston, but she is four inches shorter than the South Carolina superstar.
Connecticut Huskies +1.5
Stanford Cardinal -1.5
Total 128.5
The oddsmakers are expecting the second semifinal to be much more competitive. Stanford is a slight favorite by the basketball betting odds over Connecticut. The Pac 12 champions went unbeaten in conference play this season, but they went just 3-3 against ranked teams in non-conference action prior to the NCAA Tournament.
Cameron Brink, Haley Jones, and Lexie Hull are Stanford’s three stars. Brink leads the team with 13.4 PPG and 8.1 RPG, and she is making 56.1% of her field goals. Jones is averaging 12.9 PPG and 7.8 RPG while leading the Cardinal with 3.7 APG, and Hull is making 40.4% of her threes while being Stanford’s best defender.
Connecticut has made it to the Final Four for 14 straight seasons. The Huskies weren’t as dominant as we usually see this season though, and they were tested by both UCF and North Carolina State earlier in the NCAA Tournament.
Paige Bueckers is exceptionally talented, and Bueckers is back after missing more than half the season due to injury. The sophomore guard was instrumental in the win over NC State in the Elite Eight with 27 points on 66.7% shooting. Christyn Williams, Azzi Fudd, and Caroline Ducharme are all averaging at least 10 PPG too.
