Louisville at Virginia Tech ( -3 )
This game might as well be a tossup with both teams at 7-2 in ACC play and separated by just 2.5 games in the overall standings. The Hokies are coming off one of the most dominant defensive showings in a long time after holding NC State to 16.7 percent shooting and 24 points in Saturday’s win. Tech is a good defensive team, but that was ridiculous. The Pack helped out quite a bit with poor shot selection and just plain cold shooting, but the Hokies harassed enough to disrupt things.
It was also a far cry from their loss to UNC when Tech allowed 103 points. Things have evened out over the course of the season with the Hokies boasting the sixth-best scoring defense in the country allowing only 60.2 points per game. The Cardinals saw their six-game winning streak come to end with a loss to the Tar Heels on Saturday and now must hit the road against an inspired and confident Tech squad. Going with the home team is the best bet in this game with a side bet on the teams going under the 137 total.
West Virginia ( +12 ) at Texas Tech
Texas Tech is looking to overcome a bad loss at Kansas over the weekend while trying to stay within spitting distance of the Big 12 leaders. WVU is looking to build off just its second league win of the season. The contrast in styles has reversed from what we’ve seen the past several years. The Mountaineers typically had one of the better defensive teams in the country but now it’s the Red Raiders, who lead the Big 12 in several defensive categories. Points could be at a premium for WVU, the worst shooting team in the conference.
But the Mountaineers showed signs of escaping the funk against Oklahoma and a win over a ranked opponent could kick start the second half of their campaign. The Red Raiders barely escaped Morgantown earlier this season, using 22 WVU turnovers to eke out a 3-point win. The Mountaineers will take better care of the basketball and keep this game within the 12-point spread.
Southern Utah ( -3.5 ) at Idaho
The betting night concludes with this Big Sky matchup. Neither team is going anywhere unless they are able to pull off a major upset in the conference tournament. Idaho has struggled mightily all season and has just four victories. Their lack of offense has played a major part in six straight losses and nine in their last 10. The T-Birds haven’t been much better, but at least they can score, and that will be the difference as Southern Utah breaks away to post the victory, making them the best bet in this one.
