At the beginning of the 2018-19 college basketball season Nebraska Cornhuskers coach Tim Miles knew he had to get his team into the Big Dance come the month of March. And for the first two months of the season it looked like the Big Red would make it. But now Nebraska’s post season and Miles’s job prospects are in free fall with a difficult assignment at the Purdue Boilermakers set for Saturday. The red-hot Wisconsin Badgers face a daunting task at the revenge minded Michigan Wolverines in a key Big Ten matchup. And the ACC showdown between the Duke Blue Devils and Virginia Cavaliers looms large. Let’s take a look at the best bets for Saturday college hoops!
#19 Wisconsin Badgers at #7 Michigan Wolverines, Noon ET, FOX
The Wisconsin Badgers were wallowing in the bottom half of the Big Ten Conference standings and looking like a bubble team that was about to burst when they hosted the then undefeated and top ranked Michigan Wolverines on January 19. UW scored the 64-54 upset win as 3.5 point home dogs and things have never been the same since. Wisconsin has gotten the money in six consecutive games with eight of their last ten going under the total. The revenge minded Wolverines have gotten the cash in three of their last four games. At Crisler Arena the Wolverines have paid in four of their last five against the Badgers. Five of the last six in this series at Michigan have gone under the total. The Maize and Blue have covered four of their last five as home chalks. Michigan forward Ignas Brazdeikis can match Wisconsin star Ethan Happ at the very least. Expect Michigan to extract revenge in a B1G home win.
#2 Duke Blue Devils at #13 Virginia Cavaliers, 6 p.m. ET, ESPN
The ACC lead will be on the line at Charlottesville, Virginia when a pair of Final Four teams renew their rivalry. The Duke Blue Devils and Virginia Cavaliers had an epic barn burner in their first meeting last month in which the Blue Devils prevailed 72-70 while failing to cover as 2.5-point home chalks. Duke has held surprising dominance of the cashier’s cage in their head to head series at Virginia. Aa a matter of fact the Blue Devils have come away with the cash in five of their last six visits to Virginia with five of the last seven between these teams at John Paul Jones Arena going under the total. Virginia boasts the best defense in college basketball but their offense remains suspect. Duke is a much more complete and full court team. The Blue Devils tandem of RJ Barrett and Zion Williamson are both averaging over 22 points per game. They will prove to be the ultimate difference in what should be a thrilling road payout for Duke!
Nebraska Cornhuskers at #15 Purdue Boilermakers 8:30 p.m. ET BTN
Nebraska is drowning gamblers in red ink with just one payout in their last nine games. The Big Red has gone under the total in six of their last seven. Horrible shooting has been the culprit for Nebraska’s misery. NU ranks 240th in the country for field goal percentage, 211th for three-point shooting, and 168th for scoring. Meanwhile Purdue has jumped into the thick of the Big Ten Conference race. The Boilermakers have covered six of their last seven games with four of their last seven matchups going over the total. Purdue has gotten the money in two of their last three against Nebraska and has covered the spread in eight of their last 12 as chalks at Mackey Arena. Purdue guard Carsen Edwards will be the best player on the court. Edwards is averaging 24.5 points per game.
