College Basketball Thursday, February 22, 2024 Parlay Picks

Thursday’s are always a popular day for college basketball and February 22 is no exception with a number of contests on the slate to build a college basketball parlay. With the regular season winding down teams are looking to position themselves for upcoming conference tournaments and possibly March Madness. The schedule is highlighted by a Big Ten matchup between third-ranked Purdue and Rutgers. The Boilermakers are coming off their first loss in over a month falling to Ohio State as a 7.5-point favorite on Sunday. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. ET and will air on FS1. Purdue escaped the earlier meeting, 68-60, but failed to cover the 10-point spread. Over the last eight meetings Rutgers has seven payouts and a push while beating Purdue outright five times.

A majority of games involve teams in the western half of the country with the Pac-12, WAC, Big West, Big Sky, WCC and Mountain West all partaking. A ranked matchup has No. 21 Washington State at No. 4 Arizona on FS1 with tip set for 11 p.m. ET. The Gonzaga Bulldogs exited the national rankings but remain a force reaching the 20-win mark with four consecutive victories. The Zags’ only loss in the last 10 outings was by a bucket to WCC-leading Saint Mary’s with five of their wins in that span by more than 20 points. Let’s take a look at some College Basketball parlay picks for Thursday, Feb. 22.

Purdue has just three losses this season so it doesn’t take kindly to losing. I don’t think the Boilermakers were ready for an energized Ohio State squad on Sunday after the Buckeyes made a coaching change and caught the Boilers napping. If anything that should serve as a wakeup call to Purdue, which is looking to overcome a loss as the No. 1 seed in last year’s NCAA Tournament.

On the road the Scarlett Knights will be catching double figures on the line and they’ve had plenty of success against Purdue going 8-1-1 ATS in the previous 10 hookups. When laying a bunch of points Purdue is breaking even with a 7-7 record when favored by 10 or more. Rutgers kept the first game close despite Zach Edey going for 26 points and 12 boards, and if they were able to convert on more than 38 percent of their shots a win was within reach.

While most of the talk in the AAC surrounded FAU and its early season ranking following their run to the Final Four, it’s the Mustangs making noise currently. Winners of six in a row while cashing out in three of their last four, SMU has a tough task ahead, but one they are certainly up for. The Owls split their last four games with their only payout in that span coming in overtime against Wichita State where they made eight more free throws to cover the 7-point line. Since a payout win over Arizona on Dec. 23, FAU is just 3-11 ATS making them a liability in this matchup.

Neither team is lighting it up offensively with both finishing their last two games with fewer than 65 points scored. I have to give the edge to Oregon in its matchup with Stanford, but I don’t see a lot of points scored with both clubs experiencing shooting woes and both being stronger defensively. The teams have played below the total in two of their last three meetings and if the number is in the mid-130s it’s a smart play to back the UNDER again.

I hate kicking a dead horse, figuratively of course, but LMU just isn’t very good. Since opening the season with six wins in 10 games the Lions are 4-12 failing to earn a payout in their last five games. They’ve been in several games losing twice to WCC-leading Saint Mary’s by a combined nine points, but that’s been the exception. LMU has dropped six straight and has just one road win this season and likely won’t be a factor in their matchup against a strong Santa Clara squad. The Broncos cashed out seven of their last eight games and covered at LMU earlier this season.
