San Diego State Aztecs vs. Connecticut Huskies (Huskies -7, total 132.5)
The total on this game is listed at 132.5. We know that the only chance that San Diego State has is to slow this game down and play tight defense. The Aztecs didn’t do that in the first half against Florida Atlantic and it nearly cost them the game. The Aztecs woke up in the second half and played great defense and rallied to win the game. They can’t afford to get down big against the Huskies or this game will be a rout. I think the Aztecs are in over their head in this game, but the oddsmakers haven’t left us much value and the public is going to be on the Huskies. I am tempted to take the first half under, as I think both teams will be very focused defensively. I am a bit leery of the total, however, as the first half number is listed at 60.5. That is still the way I lean though, as I expect a low scoring first half.
San Diego State Under 62.5 Points
I do think the Huskies are a bit underrated in terms of their defense. They ranked quite well during the regular season in defense and I can’t see San Diego State doing anything in this game. I think going under the total for the Aztecs point total is worth a look. The total for San Diego State points is listed at 62.5. I think taking the under is the way to go there. Miami was a much more potent team than the Aztecs and they couldn’t even reach 60 points.
Halftime/Fulltime Props
I don’t think there is much question that Connecticut wins this game and I think there is some value on the halftime/fulltime props. The Huskies to lead at the half and win the game is listed at -225. While that price seems a little bit high, I think that is the most likely scenario. I think we can hedge a little bit though and also take San Diego State to lead at the half and Connecticut to win the game. We get +450 on that prop. Our only danger is if the game is tied at the half or if the Aztecs win the game.
Player Points – Hawkins over 14.5
The second leading scorer this season for Connecticut was Jordan Hawkins and it was not much of a difference between him and Adama Sanogo. In the Final Four matchup against Miami, Hawkins was a bit under the weather and he still found a way to score 13 points. I expect Hawkins to feel much better on Monday night and we just need one more basket out of him to go over the total of 14.5 points. I think it is worth noting that the San Diego State defense had all kinds of trouble against Florida Atlantic’s guards on Saturday and I think Hawkins could have a big game on Monday night.
