A big one is set to go down in the Big Ten Conference early Sunday afternoon when Chris Holtmann’s No. 16 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes invade Mackey Arena to take on Matt Painter’s No. 6 ranked Purdue Boilermakers. It doesn’t get much bigger than this for both programs with the meeting proving to be the only set to go down in the regular season between the schools. As such, a win in this spot would go a long way towards making life a bit easier for either team to cash in on the B1G futures odds at online sportsbooks. On paper, it looks like the Boilers hold the upper hand with it coming out victorious in 11 of 12 played home games (6-5 ATS), while the Buckeyes have struggled away from Columbus in compiling 2-3 SU and 1-4 ATS records and stands just 1-4 SU and 2-2-1 ATS the last five times it invaded West Lafayette. That being said, Purdue could be laying close to double-digits which would have me leaning towards taking the points to kick off Championship Sunday considering the Buckeyes look more battle tested than the Boilers who’ve played to the easier of the two schedules.
Take this Big 10 matchup in live on CBS at 12 p.m. ET from Mackey Arena on Sunday, January 30, 2022. BookMaker.eu will have NCAA basketball odds available for this and every game lined up for Sunday’s college basketball slate.

Odds Analysis
These programs crossed paths three times a season ago. Purdue took care of business in both regular season skirmishes logging the 67-60 win and push as 7-point home favorites and followed it up with a hard fought 67-65 outright win and cover as 5.5-point Value City Arena underdogs in the rematch. Both matchups combined to go under the closing total. But when it mattered most, Ohio State went on to defeat Purdue in the semifinals of the Big Ten tournament by an 87-78 final count in overtime before outlasting Michigan in the finals to take home the title. Purdue is 2-1 SU but just 1-1-1 ATS the last three times it hosted this rivalry with the under cashing in twice and an average of 130 points scored.
Ohio State Buckeyes
Last we saw the Buckeyes hit the hardwood, they rattled off a second straight win against the IUPUI Jaguars in the form of an 83-37 beat down that saw them cover the closing 33-point spread with relative ease. The showing was sorely needed after losing at Wisconsin in a miserable fashion and following it up with a 61-56 win and non-cover against a down Penn State team. To date, OSU’s biggest win has come against the No. 11 Wisconsin Badgers at home, but was quickly erased after dropping the rematch in Madison over a month later. Bottom line, Ohio State is sorely in need of a big win to boost the resume, so E.J. Liddell and his mates should be extremely fired up for this tilt with the Boilermakers.
Purdue Boilermakers
Purdue is currently the highest ranked team in the Big Ten per the Pomeroy Ratings regardless of the fact that it’ll go into Thursday night’s road tilt in Iowa City with the fifth best conference record. Its No. 1 ranked offensive efficiency backed by a top-65 defensive efficiency has much to do with those high marks. It even has an outright win over Illinois – the current B1G leader – under its belt. After throttling Northwestern last time out to move to 3-1 SU and ATS in its last four games, the Boilers certainly look to be hitting their stride as the season enters the halfway point of the B1G season. That being said, it’s shown some warts in spots against Rutgers, Wisconsin and Indiana. The fact that it’s just 3-5 ATS in Big Ten play is also concerning.
Ohio State at Purdue Betting Prediction
While the early tip is bothersome for expecting points to hit the board on Sunday, both offenses simply just match up very well against the opposing defenses to not get the job done. We’re dealing with two of the more efficient offensive attacks in the country with Ohio State clocking in at No. 21 and Purdue the best in the sport. On top of that, both teams thrive in producing offense from 2-point range with the Boilers ranked No. 9 and Buckeyes No. 17. On the flipside, Purdue ranks No. 102 in 2-point defense and Ohio State No. 37. Both teams should also excel from long range with each ranked amongst the top-20 from distance and both defenses ranked No. 104 or higher. Bringing it all together is some exceptional free throw shooting from both sides. With so much on the line with this being the only regular season meeting, I expect both offenses to bring it. If the over isn’t enough action, go ahead and take the points with the Buckeyes or see how the game plays out early on before investing in the live betting market. Either way, look for some denting of the scoreboard to occur!
