Providence Friars
The Friars are 7-4 SU and 5-6 ATS with seven of their 11 games going over the total. Providence is averaging 74.7 points per game, while giving up 71 points per contest. David Duke leads the team in scoring at 19.3 points per game, while Jared Bynum is leading the team in assists at 4.5 per game and Nate Watson leads the team in rebounding at 7 per contest. The Friars are coming off a 67-65 loss to Creighton last Saturday. They will have had more than a week off which could be a bit of a problem. Providence didn’t shoot well against Creighton, going 33.8% from the field.
Xavier Musketeers
The Musketeers are 9-2 SU and 7-4 ATS with seven of the games going over the total and four going under. Xavier is averaging 79.2 points per game and giving up 69.3 points per contest. Zach Freemantle is averaging 15.6 points per game, while Paul Scruggs leads the team in assists at 6.5 per game and Jason Carter is averaging 8.2 rebounds per contest.
Xavier is coming off a 69-61 win on Wednesday against St. John’s. It was an ugly win for the Musketeers, as they had 10 turnovers, but they still found a way to win. "I was proud of our guys' fight," said Xavier head coach Travis Steele to the media, "It wasn't a pretty game at all. Give St. John's a lot of credit. I thought they really defended us well. They made the game choppy ... but our guys found a way." Xavier went a pathetic 0-for-12 from 3-point range.
Providence vs. Xavier Series Trends
The teams have split their last ten meetings with Providence going 6-4 ATS. Six of the last ten have gone over the total, with three games going under with one push. The teams split their two meetings a year ago with each team winning and covering at home. It should be noted, however, that both games were close, with Providence winning 80-74, while Xavier won 64-58. This has been a home team series with Xavier winning six of the last seven at home and they went 4-3 ATS. Four of the seven went over the total.
Free College Basketball ATS Picks
The Musketeers are going to be listed as home favorites in this game and there is no question that the series trends favor the home team. If Providence wasn’t coming off such a long layoff, I would take them plus the points in this game and I still lean to the Friars plus the points. I think the better bet is to wait until halftime and then bet the Friars. It is very possible that Providence gets off to a slow start and Xavier has the halftime lead. If that is the case, I will back the Friars in the second half.
College Basketball Odds: Xavier 70, Providence 69
