Trips to the Sweet 16 will be on the line on Saturday, in the first slate of Second Round games. Some of the lower-seeded teams survived scares from small-conference schools on Thursday but withstood the test and will now look to earn their spot in the second weekend of March Madness. There will be just three double-digit seeds (Florida, Murray State, and Minnesota) playing today, as there were no shocking upsets two days ago.
Maryland Terrapins vs. LSU Tigers (LSU -2, O/U 145.5)
LSU and Maryland both survived scares in Jacksonville on Sunday. The Tigers withstood a late charge from Yale and held on for the win, while Maryland battled back and forth with a game Belmont team before pulling it out late. We have already seen a decent amount of movement in this game. LSU opened as a 1.5-point favorite and is up to 2, and the total has dipped from 147 to 145.5.
Wofford Terriers vs. Kentucky Wildcats (KENT -5, O/U 138.5)
We have yet to see any real movement in the second game in Jacksonville, but don’t be surprised to see some sharp action on Kentucky. Wofford has been a trendy mid-major school to support all season, but the school was just 2-4 against power conference opponents this season. The Terriers have the nation’s longest winning streak with 21 straight wins after beating Seton Hall 84-68 on Thursday.
Florida Gators vs. Michigan Wolverines (MICH -6.5, O/U 123)
The total has taken off in this game. These are two defensive-minded teams, so the oddsmakers made the total 120 initially. However, we have seen a flurry of action on the over to move the line up three points from where it opened. There has been sharp action on the Gators as well with Michigan favored by a half-point less than it was at open.
Murray State Racers vs. Florida State Seminoles (FSU -4.5, O/U 145)
This game has seen the most movement of any game today. The Racers are sharp as can be once again, with the line falling from 5.5 to 4.5 over the last day or so. The total has seen a lot of movement too as everyone has bought a ticket to the Ja Morant show. This number has moved from 141 to 145.
Baylor Bears vs. Gonzaga Bulldogs (GONZ -13.5, O/U 148.5)
The Zags are the only No. 1 seed playing today, so it’s not a surprise they are the biggest favorite of the day. Usually sharps like to play the underdog, but the favorite has seen the bulk of the action here and Gonzaga has moved from a 12.5-point favorite to -13.5. The total has gone up a half-point from open as many believe Gonzaga will drop at least 80 on Baylor.
Minnesota Golden Gophers vs. Michigan State Spartans (MSU -10, O/U 142)
It’s always interesting to see a rematch of a regular season game, and the oddsmakers have taken the regular season meeting between Minnesota and Michigan State into account here. The Spartans hammered the Golden Gophers 79-55 in East Lansing on February 9, and that led to an opening line of Michigan State -10.5. That has dropped a half-point, but it isn’t expected to move too much.
Villanova Wildcats vs. Purdue Boilermakers (PUR -3.5, O/U 137)
There has been a little bit of sharp movement on Villanova since this line opened. Purdue was originally a four-point favorite here. If you’re a fan of three pointers, you’re going to love this one, as Villanova shoots more threes than twos, and Purdue has two guys that love to bomb away in Carsen Edwards and Ryan Cline.
Kansas Jayhawks vs. Auburn Tigers (AUB -2.5, O/U 148)
Kansas got a little too much respect initially. Auburn opened as just a one-point favorite, and that line quickly moved up to where it currently rests. The total has moved up by a half-point too from an open of 147.5.
