Losers of five straight games, the Dubs fell off the pace in the Western Conference and were briefly overtaken by Memphis for the second-best record in the NBA. Golden State found a groove since, though, winning three straight by double figures, including Saturday’s victory over defending champion Milwaukee. The Celtics put themselves in a good position in the East with a recent hot streak. They had won five in a row and 16 of their last 18 games before falling to the Mavs on Sunday. They surrendered more than 120 points in each of their last four games during their losing streak, but they got back in the win column with a 112-97 win over the Clippers last week. They held Denver to 102 points and cooled off the scorching hot Bucks in Saturday’s 122-109 triumph. The team’s leading scorer went for more than 30 in each game of the recent winning streak and the Celtics scored at least 100 points in 18 consecutive games until Sunday when they managed just 92. Tatum had an off game making 7 of 23 shots for 21 points.
The Celtics can bank on the knowledge that they’ve had plenty of success against the Warriors. The loss back in December ended a five-game winning streak where Boston went 4-1 ATS. Even when the Warriors were winning championships and reaching the NBA Finals the Celtics had their share of triumphs. Over the last 12 meetings Boston is 8-4 SU and 8-3-1 ATS. During their recent rough patch Steve Kerr gave his top players a rest for a rescheduled game. With Curry, Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins not making the trip to Denver, the Dubs were handed a fifth straight defeat. As it turns out the move was genius. It gave the three leading scorers a chance to rest while allowing others to play a vital role for at least one game. While the Dubs lost they displayed a feistiness that allowed them to score 124 points and cover the spread. And in three games since then the club hasn’t lost with payouts in each.
The Warriors are also hopeful the return of Draymond Green gives them a boost down the stretch. Green is expected to return to the lineup this week after missing nearly two months. Thompson has started to regain his form with his best game yet since returning after missing two seasons. Thompson dropped 38 on the Bucks hitting 8 of 14 triples to offset an 8-point game from leading scorer Curry.

With the Warriors getting pieces back that recent funk is a thing of the past. It started with a renewed commitment to playing defense and Green will be an asset in that department. Two of the stingiest defenses will keep scoring at a minimum, but the clubs can also score with plenty of shooters on the floor making me seriously consider backing the OVER since the total will be reflective.
