A battle for first place in the Atlantic Division will ensue in the first leg of ESPN’s Wednesday night doubleheader when Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers welcome the Brooklyn Nets into the Wells Fargo Center. Though the Sixers own an identical record and own the tiebreaker over Brooklyn, it’s the Nets that are currently taken more seriously by online sportsbooks as bona fide title contenders. Much will be on the line for this one with the matchup representing the final one of the regular season. The teams split their previous two skirmishes with the home team winning and covering both times. Brooklyn will already be without James Harden due to his balky hamstring, and it’s still unknown as to whether Kyrie Irving will be available for this one after sitting Monday’s game out for personal reasons. Philadelphia 76ers
The road has recently been bumpy for the Sixers who’ve gone on to split their last four games both SU and ATS versus the likes of the Grizzlies, Celtics, Pelicans and Thunder. The team will close its current four-game road trip out on Monday in Dallas before returning home to host this pivotal divisional clash. After Zion Williamson and his New Orleans teammates held Philly to less than 100 points for the second time in the last two weeks, it went out and took some frustration out on OKC by pasting Luguentz Dort and company by a 117-93 final tally as 10-point favorites.
Brooklyn vs. Philadelphia Prediction
As dominant the 76ers have been in their own gym, I just can’t help but think Brooklyn finds a way to win this game; with or without “The Beard.” You can bet your bottom dollar that Irving will be back for this tilt with so much riding on it. As bad the Nets defense has been all season, it won’t be that end of the floor that ultimately decides this matchup. Philly undeniably owns the better defense, but the Nets will still find a way to get the job done. While 2020-21 has been a nice ride for Philly and its backers, I just don’t envision it being of a championship caliber. When the Nets flip the switch, they can handle anyone in the East. I believe that switch gets flipped tonight!
