Odds Analysis
This matchup starts a pivotal stretch for the Mavs. They’ve played the fewest road games in the NBA so far going 1-4 SU and 2-3 ATS with a bunch of away tilts staring back at them. This one starts a three-game Eastern Conference swing that also has them playing some of the best in the Raptors and Bucks. Two weeks into the campaign the Celtics were sitting at 4-3 following an overtime loss to Cleveland. They broke out of that funk winning their next nine contests behind an offense that’s hitting on all cylinders. During the streak the Celtics averaged 123.3 points scoring at least 117 points in all but one game. The OVER went 5-3-1 in that stretch with the Cs earning payouts in five of the last six games.
Dallas Mavericks
The Mavs go as Luka Doncic goes. If you don’t believe it just take a look at their last few games. Maybe Jason Kidd thought he could get away with beating the lowly Rockets by resting Doncic in that game. It didn’t turn out too well with the Mavs losing at home 101-92 for Houston’s third win of the season. Doncic played 40 minutes the previous night scoring 35 points to help fend off the Clippers 103-101. Back in the lineup against Denver on Friday, Doncic recorded a triple-double with 33 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists in a 127-99 win, the Mavs’ first payout in 11 games. They were 0-9-1 ATS in their previous 10 games.
Doncic was a big reason why the Mavs swept the last season series from Boston scoring 33 points in a 107-104 home win and tallying 26 in a 95-92 upset at the Garden. Stingy defense, especially from beyond the arc, was another reason. Dallas held Boston to 26.4 percent three-point shooting allowing nine made triples in each of the two games. The teams cashed the UNDER four times with a push in the last five meetings.
Boston Celtics
Offense was an issue against the Mavericks last season but it hasn’t been so far this year. The Celtics have the NBA’s best offensive rating and they score the second-most points in the Association averaging 120.2. It’s quite a contrast to what we’ve seen in the past from this group when a typically staunch defense was what got them a bunch of wins. The talent is there to score with Jayson Tatum averaging over 30 points and seven players scoring in double figures.
Jaylen Brown missed the first meeting between the teams last season and the Celtics shot 38 percent from the floor losing the second. Things point to a different outcome in this one with Brown averaging 25.3 points and the Celtics shooting almost 49 percent from the floor, the second-best mark in the NBA. Boston is 6-1 at home averaging over 124 points in those games with the OVER 6-1.
NBA Odds Pick
The Celtics haven’t sacrificed a lot defensively in order to be one of the most prolific offensive clubs. They rank in the middle of the pack in most categories and have simply outscored teams. They will need to keep Doncic in check but the surrounding crew isn’t as strong as what Boston runs out there and the Mavs haven’t had a lot of success on the road.
