The Dallas Mavericks visit the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night in a game that can be seen on ESPN. It is a matchup between two of the top teams in the Western Conference and a matchup between top guards, as the Mavericks have Luca Doncic, while the Suns have Devin Booker. Dallas is beginning a four-game road trip that will have them playing two straight road games in Phoenix; this game on Wednesday and also on Friday. The Mavericks will then play two straight in Los Angeles against the Clippers. This will be the third game in four nights for Phoenix, but at least they did have Tuesday off. Let’s look at the game and NBA picks.
This NBA matchup between the Mavericks and Suns takes place on Wednesday, November 17, 2021. Tip-off is set for 10:00 p.m. ET from FootPrint Center in Phoenix, Arizona. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN. We'll have NBA odds available at BookMaker.eu for this and every game on Wednesday’s NBA slate.
Odds Analysis
The Suns will be listed as home favorites in this contest. They are 5-2 at home this season, while the Mavericks are 3-3 on the road. The Mavericks have had all kinds of trouble against the Suns of late, losing the last six meetings. Dallas has not done well in Phoenix through the years, as they are 2-8 SU and 2-8 ATS in the last ten meetings, with six of the ten going under the total.
Dallas Mavericks
The Mavericks are averaging just 104.5 points per game which is 23rd in the league. They have played okay on defense, as they are giving up 106.1 points per contest, which is 12th in the NBA. Doncic leads the team in a number of categories including points per game (25.1), assists (7.7) and rebounds (8.3).
The Mavericks are fortunate to have a winning record considering their offense hasn’t really produced. Dallas is particularly struggling shooting the three-pointer. They are just 24th in the league in three-point shooting. Doncic hasn’t been that great from long range, shooting about 31%. None of the other players other than Maxi Kleber are very good at three-point shooting and that has to change. Dorian Finney-Smith hit over 39% last season from 3-point range but he is below 30% this season and Reggie Bullock hit 41% from deep last season and he is hitting just 32% this season.
Phoenix Suns
The Suns are one of the highest scoring teams in the league, averaging 112 points per contest. They are the best team in the league in field goal percentage at 47.7%. They are giving up 106.3 points per contest which is 13th in the league. Booker leads the team in scoring at 22.4 points per game, Chris Paul leads the team in assists with 10.4 per game, while Deandre Ayton leads the team in rebounding at 11.3 per contest. Ayton will not be playing in this game, as he is still out due to injury.
NBA Picks
There is no question that Dallas has struggled in Phoenix through the years so it is hard to make a case for taking them in this contest. This will be two straight for the Mavericks in Phoenix, so maybe that will make some difference. Regardless, I will take the Suns in this game on Wednesday night. I also think bettors will be taking the game over since this is an ESPN game and that should give us some value on the under, so I will also play the game under the total.
