We will see a rematch of last summer’s NBA Finals on Thursday night in Phoenix when the Suns host the Milwaukee Bucks. Phoenix got out to a 2-0 series lead over Milwaukee at home, but those were the last two games that the Suns would win. Milwaukee went on to win the next four games to win the city its first NBA title in a half-century. These teams could be on a collision course to meet once again, as Phoenix currently leads the Western Conference and Milwaukee is in second place in the East.

Milwaukee has won seven of its last nine games. The Bucks’ only two losses in that stretch were to Cleveland and Denver, so it looks like this team is finally turning a corner. They are in the middle of a four-game road swing, and Milwaukee got off to a great start by hammering the Blazers and Clippers in back-to-back games this weekend. They will face the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night before playing Phoenix on Thursday.
The Suns have the best record in the NBA. Phoenix has played well for long stretches and has won 13 of its last 14 games ahead of this showdown with Milwaukee. They will be finishing up an East Coast road trip on Tuesday night against Philadelphia, and they snuck past Chicago in the Windy City on Monday night.
What to Watch
Giannis Antetokuonmpo could win his third NBA MVP this season. Antetokuonmpo has been superb for the Bucks this year, leading the team with 28.9 PPG and 11.2 RPG. His 5.9 APG are not far behind team leader Jrue Holiday, and his 31.87 PER is one of the best totals in the league. He dominated Phoenix in the paint on his way to being named NBA Finals MVP last year, and he could have another big game on Thursday night.
The Bucks could really use another big man, as Brook Lopez has only played in one game this season. Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday are playing well though, and Bobby Portis has also been a solid contributor while taking a larger role. There are issues of depth too, but Milwaukee doesn’t have a lot of financial flexibility prior to the trade deadline.
Phoenix is probably the most well-rounded team in the league. The Suns don’t have a superstar, but they have three very good players in Devin Booker, Chris Paul, and Deandre Ayton. Booker leads the way with 25.2 PPG, and he plays solid defense to boot. Paul is the key to everything for this team though.
CP3 doesn’t have eye-popping numbers with 14.9 PPG and 10.4 APG, but he continues to play big minutes and has finally found a team worthy of his talents. He isn’t a great perimeter shooter at this stage of his career, yet he does a great job with every other facet of the game for the Suns. Paul is hitting almost 49% of his field goals and still plays great defense although he will turn 37 in May.
Role players like Mikal Bridges, Cameron Johnson, and Cam Payne make this team a real threat to win the Western Conference for the second straight season too. Phoenix ranks first in shooting percentage, and the Suns are finally getting the respect they deserve from the oddsmakers.

While Phoenix is at home for this game, it’s the Suns that will have to take a long plane ride in order to play a game on one day’s rest. That gives Milwaukee an edge, but the Bucks are just 15-12 on the road and won’t be able to get past the Suns.
