NBA ATS Picks – San Antonio Spurs at Los Angeles Lakers Game Preview

Spurs-at-Lakers-bm-4-3

The San Antonio Spurs are one of the hottest teams in the NBA, re-establishing themselves among the top seeds in the Western Conference after a recent lull which had them outside of the playoffs completely. San Antonio must hit the road next time out but is heading to Los Angeles for winnable matchup against the Lakers.

The Spurs are jumbled close to several other teams in the playoff race and can’t afford to slip up. It won’t be the easiest game as the Lakers have been playing better of late and get the benefit of the home court in this one. Odds Analysis

The Spurs are 45-32 straight up and 39-34-4 against the spread. San Antonio has gone 15-21-2 against the spread on the road this year. The Spurs are 29-23-3 against the spread as the favorite this season.

The Lakers are 33-43 straight up and 39-37 against the spread on the year. Los Angeles has covered in 20 of 37 attempts at home this season. The Lakers are 28-30 against the spread as the underdog.

Injury Report

Isaiah Thomas — The Lakers’ guard announced out last week that he’ll miss the rest of the season after electing to undergo an arthroscopic procedure on his right hip. The timeline for the recovery is about four months, well into the offseason for Los Angeles, which is not in playoff contention.

Thomas, who started the season with Cleveland, missed several games in the beginning of the season as well with hip pain. He was traded to Los Angeles on February 8th and was playing well until his injury flared up again.

Thomas averaged 15.2 points and 4.8 assists per game this year. He came into this season on the heels of a career season with the Celtics so he’ll be looking to get healthy this offseason and get back on track.

Key Stat

Two. That’s how many games separate the bottom five teams in the Western Conference heading into this final stretch of games. The Spurs are currently ranked fourth, but the eighth-place Pelicans are just two games back.

The Nuggets, who are currently just outside the playoff bubble sitting ninth place in the Western Conference, are only three games back from the Spurs. With such a close race, that means a strong finish is essential for teams like San Antonio.

The Spurs have a good chance of winning this week’s games against the Lakers and the Clippers, but will face a bigger challenge this weekend against the Trail Blazers. They’ll also face the Pelicans in their final regular season game of the year next Wednesday who could potentially be facing a must-win situation depending on how this next week shakes out.

Free NBA ATS Picks

The Spurs have been without star small forward Kawhi Leonard for nearly the entire season and thus have been up and down, but are in line to have home court advantage in the first round if they can stick with the No. 4 seed the rest of the way in the regular season.

San Antonio can’t afford any slip-ups and should come into this game focused and motivated. Take the Spurs to knock off the Lakers in this game and cover the spread as well, as it should be a small one.

San Antonio hopes to be a thorn in the side of the contenders in the playoffs, and should be able to capture this win to remain hot with the postseason approaching.

NBA Odds: Spurs 113, Lakers 106
