The Golden State Warriors may not have the best record in the NBA as the second half of the season prepares to start up, but the oddsmakers are not worried about their up and down regular season. Despite some early inconsistency, Golden State has flexed its muscle of late and remains a huge favorite to win another NBA championship.
The star quartet of Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green continues to lead the way, and the addition of big man DeMarcus Cousins has rounded out a ridiculously talented starting five.
With the Warriors widely expected to win the title, there are some good prices for the rest of the field for those bettors bold enough to believe an upset is in the works. The Warriors are listed as the odds-on favorites to win another championship at -247. The Milwaukee Bucks currently have the best record in the NBA and boast an MVP candidate in Giannis Antetokounmpo. Even though the Bucks weren’t projected to be this good before the season started, the oddsmakers are showing faith in them at +925 odds. The Boston Celtics have been up and down but there is great belief in their playoff potential as the Celtics are next-highest at +1000 odds.
The Toronto Raptors are only one game behind the Bucks for the league’s best record and recently added Marc Gasol and Jeremy Lin to the mix. Their odds are listed at +1051. The Philadelphia 76ers are the other team in the Eastern Conference with a realistic title shot. They come in at +1402.
The team with the best odds in the West outside of the Warriors are the Oklahoma City Thunder. The duo of Paul George and Russell Westbrook is elite, and the team is listed at +1700. The Houston Rockets have been inconsistent this season but when healthy they are a problem. Houston’s odds are listed at +1800.
The Denver Nuggets have the second-best record in the West but the oddsmakers do not believe in their high-end potential as Denver is listed at +3800. The Los Angeles Lakers aren’t even inside the top eight seeds in the West at this point but still have LeBron James, which keeps them in the conversation of contenders at least. The Lakers are listed at +6000 to win the championship.
Even though there are some pretty good teams outside of that top group, the rest, which includes the Indiana Pacers, San Antonio Spurs, Portland Trail Blazers and Utah Jazz, are all considered extreme longshots to win the title.

The Warriors are the easy pick even at these odds, but let’s take them out of the conversation in order to zero in on worthy underdog choices. The Raptors are only one game behind Milwaukee in the standings and boast an elite trio in Kawhi Leonard, Kyle Lowry and Serge Ibaka. The addition of Gasol is a big one, while Lin and recent signee Jodie Meeks add depth.
The Raptors wouldn’t have to see the Warriors until the finals, and they could always catch a break if Golden State happens to get knocked off on its side of the bracket. At only the fourth-best odds, the Raptors are the correct choice to win the championship in NBA gambling.
