The more things change the more they stay the same could be the tag line for the NBA this season. The balance of power shifted to the Western Conference with James inking a deal with the Lakers. But it’s Golden State’s title to lose as they are the favorite to win the whole enchilada again this season. There are interesting options for the season props, though. We’ve had a first time MVP in each of the last two seasons and another crop of talented young players entered the league over the summer. Which one has the inside track to the Rookie of the Year award? We’ll dissect the season props with odds right here.

Harden won the award for the first time last season and should be on a short list of favorite to win it again. He plays on a team and in a system that caters to his abilities and he collects the numbers, which are the only tangible factors in deciding a winner. Oh, and the Rockets should be good enough this season to earn him some extra votes.
If LeBron couldn’t win the award last season after single-handedly taking the Cavs to near the top of the Eastern Conference and into the playoffs, he’ll never get another trophy. So we might as well scratch the King off the list right now. Two youngsters are favored at +350 and they are the future of the NBA.
When healthy, Anthony Davis is as good as it gets. He led the Pelicans back to the playoffs while finishing second in scoring, fifth in rebounding and leading the league in blocks last season. If healthy is the biggest caveat in his quest, however. With LeBron out of the East Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo is primed to take over that conference. The NBA’s fifth-leading scorer from a season ago can do it all and averaged a double-double in 2017-18.

No. 1 overall pick Deandre Ayton is the favorite to win the award, but will he? Ayton is a stud and will have every opportunity to show why the Suns took him with the top pick. He’s certainly a candidate to average a double-double in his first season, but the Suns aren’t expected to win a lot of games, and while that shouldn’t impact the voting, it does. Kevin Knox is a scorer and will slide right into the Knicks lineup with Kristaps Porzingis out. Have a good season under the bright lights of Broadway and you’re an instant star. He’s worth a flyer at +720.

Westbrook led the league last season as the only player to average in double-figures. That number will likely go down in 2018-19 with the addition of Dennis Schroeder, who is expected to handle the ball more than any other Thunder player has recently. With the decision to play Rajon Rondo over Lonzo Ball, and with him feeding LeBron, there’s a good chance Rondo could take the lead, and at +3359 he’s a huge payout. Watch out for Ben Simmons, though. At +828 the odds are good and he’s in a good spot with a team that’s expected to be even better.

Davis is the favorite but Harden is the best option to lead the league in scoring for a second straight season. The Beard is Houston’s first option when it comes to scoring and he can fill it up from anywhere. He also scored nine points a game from the free throw line last season, which helped his total even when he had an off-night from the floor. And the thing about Harden is he doesn’t stop shooting. Harden was the only player to average over 30 points per game last season and he’s scored at least 29 per game in each of the last three seasons. Davis was runner-up a season ago with 28.1 points per contest.

Drummond led the league last season by nearly one full rebound per game over DeAndre Jordan, and he’s topped the circuit in two of the past three seasons, finishing second the other time. He’s the favorite with negative odds to win the rebounding title again, for good reason. He gobbles up loose balls like nobody’s business. It’s hard to imagine anyone other than Drummond or Jordan leading the league in 2018-19, which is why those two are big favorites. If you want a longshot with a good payout Enes Kanter is worth a look. Along with the two favorites, Kanter was the only player to average over 20 rebounds per 48 minutes last season. He played a tick under 26 minutes per game and with increased floor time, his number should rise.
