NBA Betting Preview – Philadelphia 76ers at Los Angeles Lakers

The Philadelphia 76ers have been abysmal on the road this year. Philly is 9-22 away from the City of Brotherly Love, and the Sixers have lost eight straight road games. They haven’t won outside of Philadelphia since beating Brooklyn 117-111 in the Big Apple on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, so they are likely to be a hefty underdog per the NBA betting odds this Tuesday night when they take on the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers have won 10 of their last 12 games, and they are in first place in the Western Conference. LA is currently five games ahead of both Denver and the Clippers.

This game will take place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Tip-off is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET on March 3, 2020, and the game will be broadcast on TNT.

Head-To-Head Results to Date

This will be the second time that the Lakers and Sixers have squared off this season. In late January, these teams met in Philadelphia, and the Sixers pulled away early in route to a comfortable 108-91 victory.

Anthony Davis and LeBron James played well for the Lakers in that game. James made 13 of 22 field goals to finish with 31 points, while James shot 50 percent from the floor and finished with 29 points. However, no other player for the Lakers tallied more than seven points in that game, and the rest of the team combined to go 13 of 36 from the floor.

The Sixers didn’t have Joel Embiid available due to injury, but the rest of the lineup more than filled his place. Tobias Harris led Philly with 29 points on 10 of 20 shooting, while Ben Simmons made 12 of 15 shots and nearly recorded a triple-double with 28 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists.

Injury Report

Unfortunately for the Sixers, Simmons won’t be available on Tuesday night. He has been dealing with a back injury that has kept him out for the last week, and he is expected to miss another week with the injury. Additionally, Embiid is unlikely to play due to a shoulder injury that he suffered a few days ago. Josh Richardson is doubtful to play as well after suffering a concussion against the Clippers on Sunday.

Anthony Davis didn’t play against New Orleans on Sunday due to a sore right knee, so he is considered questionable to take part in Tuesday night’s festivities. Alex Caruso’s status is in the air too as he tends to a hamstring injury.

Matchup to Watch

If Philadelphia doesn’t have Simmons, Embiid, or Richardson available, that puts a lot of pressure on Tobias Harris. Harris went 11-21 while playing 41 minutes against the Clippers on Sunday, and he was the second-leading scorer on the Sixers with 25 points. He has scored 25 or more points in three of his last five games, and Harris is the only reliable scoring option if the team’s top three shooters are out. That will lead to the Lakers focusing their attention on him and putting the ball in someone else’s hands.

Game Preview

James reminded everyone that he is still the most dominant force in the NBA on Sunday night in the Big Easy. He went 14-21 from the field for 34 points, and he added 12 boards and 13 assists for a triple-double to shut down the upstart Pelicans. He won’t need as strong of a performance on Tuesday night given the Sixers’ injury situation.

Prediction

The Lakers should have little trouble covering the NBA betting odds against a Sixers squad that is banged up and plays poorly on the road.
