Things are heating up around the NBA with a number of teams still in playoff contention and others looking to improve their chances ahead of Thursday’s trade deadline. The Dallas Mavericks made a splash by acquiring Kyrie Irving from Brooklyn and there will certainly be more action setting up Friday’s schedule for some teams that will have a different look. Scouting personnel and trends are huge when it comes to wagering on the NBA and more important when playing a parlay card. Teams thought to be active ahead of the deadline square off on Friday when the Utah Jazz visit the Toronto Raptors.
The Raps have underachieved, though they did finish off a successful road trip with back to back wins over Houston and Memphis leaving them tied with Indiana for the final play-in spot. That likely won’t be enough to prevent management from blowing up the squad. Stalwarts Pascal Siakam and Fred VanVleet are rumored to be on the block with Utah having several assets teams covet. Because of the possible shakeup this is a game to avoid on the parlay card. There are games worth playing, but before we get into those we need to know who’s playing.

NBA Parlay Picks for Friday, February 10, 2023
San Antonio Spurs at Detroit Pistons
The two worst teams in their respective conference square off when the Spurs visit the Pistons. With each club having 14 wins the game probably won’t garner a lot of attention. Heck 14 teams have more wins than these two have combined for. But these are games where value can be had in a parlay. One area that has defined both teams is defense, or lack thereof. The Spurs are last in the Association giving up over 122 points per game while the Pistons are only slightly better conceding an average of nearly 120 points. It’s helped the Spurs to one of the best OVER rates in the NBA at 59.6 percent while the Pistons have cashed the OVER in 57.7 percent of their home games. Backing the OVER on one leg of a multi-bet parlay looks like a winner.
Charlotte Hornets at Boston Celtics
On paper this game looks like a rout. With a 20-7 home record the Celtics are the best team in the NBA while the Hornets are trying desperately to stay ahead of Detroit and out of last place in the Eastern Conference. While the Celtics have at times played down to their opposition, losing three times to Orlando is an example, they’ve owned Charlotte with three massive victories this season extending their win streak in the series to five with payouts in each of the last four encounters while laying at least 7-points in each game. And Boston’s deep roster has allowed them to work around the loss of Marcus Smart while Jaylen Brown missed the win over Detroit earlier in the week. Backing the Cs minus the points feels right.
Dallas Mavericks at Sacramento Kings
The Kings have been a surprise this season as they continue to hold down the third seed in the West. The standings are volatile, though, with only five wins separating the nine teams behind first place Denver. The Mavs are included in that group and with a chance to break away from the other clubs they made a major deal acquiring Kyrie Irving. This is the first game of a back to back in Sacramento and it could be the first game with Irving and Luka Doncic on the floor. Doncic missed the opening of the team’s road trip with an injury though it’s possible he returns before the trip ends. And getting him back sooner would be a bonus since the Mavs have struggled without the MVP candidate in the lineup. If Luka makes his way back for this game I have no problem backing the Mavs.
