The Dallas Mavericks have gotten off to an encouraging start this season, with some nice wins and other competitive showings early in the schedule. The Mavericks would love to push for a playoff spot this year but in order to do so will need to win some games that they are expected to lose. An upcoming matchup could fit that bill as the Mavericks host the Los Angeles Lakers in a Western Conference clash. Los Angeles is on the short list of championship favorites this season and is off to a solid start, so this certainly will be a tough contest for the Mavericks.
This NBA regular season game between the Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks will be held at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas at 9:30 p.m. ET on Friday, November 1st, 2019. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN.

Odds Analysis
The Lakers have the more talented team but the Mavericks have been good thus far and are at home, so the oddsmakers figure to make this line a small one. Dallas is 1-1 at home on the season, beating the Wizards before falling to the Trail Blazers by a bucket. The Lakers’ lone road game was a loss to the Clippers, although that contest was in their shared stadium so this will be the first time Los Angeles actually has to travel for a matchup.
Key Stat
40.3. That’s the percentage Kristaps Porzingis is shooting from three-point range, as the big man has brought his impressive skillset over to the Mavericks from the Knicks. The arrival of Porzingis and the continued blossoming of Luka Doncic has really raised the expectations for Dallas early on.
Porzingis is averaging 26.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game, shooting 46.4 percent from the field in addition to the sparkling mark from downtown. Doncic has been even more impressive, averaging 29.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and 7.3 assists per contest. If this duo keeps on this trajectory, the Mavericks could very well push for the playoffs this season.
Player to Watch
Anthony Davis -- The superstar big man badly wanted to join the Lakers this offseason and got his wish. Davis has started off the season nicely, averaging 25.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 3.3 blocks per game on the year. The Lakers didn’t even make the playoffs a year ago, while much of that was due to the injury to LeBron James, it was clear that roster as constructed was not championship caliber. The addition of Davis has risen the ceiling of the group and the Mavericks will need to figure out a way to keep him from dominating this matchup.
Davis affects the game on both ends of the floor as he is not only a great scorer but also a solid defender in the paint.
NBA Pick
The Lakers have the two best players in this game with Davis and James, but Doncic and Porzingis are feeling good about the way they are playing. The Mavericks should have some confidence heading into this one. Don’t be surprised if Dallas defends its home court and comes away with an impressive win.
NBA Pick: Dallas Mavericks 109, Los Angeles Lakers 106
