NBA Friday, December 22 Parlay Picks

The final Friday before Christmas has six games on the NBA schedule as I look to recover from a poor parlay card on last week’s games. I had a strong start to the season but have cooled recently and still I have as many parlay wins as the Detroit Pistons have game wins. Their losing streak reached 24 games with Monday’s setback to Atlanta, though Detroit did cover the spread for the first time in seven games. We can’t pick on the Pistons since they aren’t scheduled to play on Friday, Dec. 22, so we’ll have to find another punching bag.

Apparently the Golden State Warriors aren’t too concerned over the indefinite suspension of Draymond Green winning three in a row to get back within a game of .500. Sure Green is a good player, but he isn’t worth the headache and the club has shown its better off without him. The Dubs look to continue their surge hosting the Washington Wizards on ESPN. The top teams in the NBA have the night off though there are some crucial matches on the docket. Philadelphia looks to stay within spitting distance of the Eastern Conference leaders hosting the Raptors. And there’s a good ole Texas shootout in Houston with the Rockets hosting the Dallas Mavericks.

Golden State / Washington OVER

With a NBA best plus-11.3 scoring differential, the Philadelphia 76ers are one of the most profitable teams in the Association with payouts in nearly 70 percent of their games. They hit a speed bump on Monday falling to the Bulls, 108-104, snapping their six-game winning streak. The Sixers have had success this season against the Raptors, though, which is why I’m leaning toward them to cover the line. With three players scoring at least 23 points, the Sixers beat Toronto 114-99 covering the 7.5-point line. They are 2-0 SU and ATS against their Atlantic Division rival.

Nobody can defend Joel Embiid, who averages a NBA-best 34.4 points and 11.8 rebounds. And they have options with Tyrese Maxey emerging as a legitimate threat averaging 25.8 points and 6.7 assists. The Sixers also have a top 10 defense that’s held Toronto to an average of 103 points this season.

The Nets are glad to be home after a tough Western Conference swing that saw them go 1-4. They get a chance to avenge a 124-101 loss to Denver on that trip by hosting the Nuggets on Friday. It might seem like a longshot to back Brooklyn but given Denver’s struggles on the road it makes perfect sense. And when the Nets got blown out last week they were playing the second of a back-to-back at elevation and with travel making for a tough time. They are 8-5 at home but the Nets have been money at the BC going 10-2-1 ATS.

I guess I can pick on Washington this week since the Pistons aren’t playing. If it wasn’t for Detroit the Wiz would be sitting in the East basement. And as it is they are just two games better in the win column. The Warriors have gotten plenty of production from their bench and they appear relieved that Green is gone. The Wizards don’t play defense allowing 127 points with opponents scoring 130 or more in exactly half of their first 26 games with the OVER cashing more than 65 percent of the time. Klay Thompson has emerged from a season-long shooting slump hitting 6 of 15 triples for 24 points in Tuesday’s overtime win over Boston. Steph Curry also dropped six treys and the bench combined for 50 points with three reserves reaching double figures.
