I have yet to hit a NBA parlay but it isn’t from a lack of trying. Honestly, betting the NBA is harder than any other sport given the number of games and the ebbs and flows over the course of a season. That won’t stop me from trying, though, and the schedule for Friday, January 12 offers 10 games to build a parlay around. Just when it looked like Memphis was ready to make a run with the return of Ja Morant, the Griz star had his season end due to a shoulder injury that will require surgery. The Griz won just six games when Morant was serving a 25-game suspension at the start of the year. Memphis hosts the LA Clippers on Friday. Minnesota has been atop the Western Conference most of the season and returns home for a game against Portland following a back-to-back road trip to Orlando and Boston. The Wolves have been a surprise team boasting the NBA’s second-best record through 35 games.
One of my two winning picks on last week’s four-team parlay was the OVER in the Indiana-Atlanta matchup. The teams combined for 266 points and are back at it on Friday. With a cover rate of over 69 percent the Orlando Magic are the most profitable team in the NBA. They are also one of five teams entering the week tied for fourth in the East with a record of 21-15. They visit Miami on Friday with the Heat among those six clubs vying for a top 6 in the conference standings.

It worked for me last week so what the hell, I’ll try it again. The Pacers and Hawks are used to playing high scoring games combining for 266 points last Friday to cash the OVER. They also combined for 309 points in the first meeting with Indiana prevailing 157-152 in regulation time. They’ve gone OVER in the last three games and in 10 of the past 11 meetings, though the betting markets are adjusting. Still, neither team is keen on playing defense so expect another up-tempo, high scoring affair.
Memphis was awful at the start of the season without Morant going 6-19 during his suspension. And it’s back to playing without their superstar after Morant was lost for the season with a shoulder injury. The shock of losing Morant so soon after his return is a blow to the Griz, who started to show signs of becoming the team most expected. But injuries have befallen them this season with Steven Adams also done for the season, Brandon Clarke sidelined indefinitely and Jaren Jackson Jr. nursing a sore knee. That’s enough to make me back the visiting Clippers, who won 15 of 18 games while going 12-6 ATS since the start of December.
I backed the Jazz in their matchup with Boston last week and got an L in what was their worst performance in 10 games. Making a push for a playoff seed in the West, Utah won eight of 10 games taking down Philadelphia and Milwaukee to finish off a three-game road trip. They are 8-2 ATS in that span with a healthy roster for the first time since the start of the season. Utah played chunks of games without leading scorer Lauri Markkonen and Jordan Clarkson, but they’ve been a different club since they both returned. Once an afterthought in the West, the Jazz surpassed Golden State with their recent surge and are on the verge of entering the top 10 in the conference.
