The final day of the NBA regular season is upon us with all 30 teams in action on Sunday, April 9 giving us a bonanza of NBA parlay options. And right now I’m feeling good since last weekend was delightful cashing a three-team parlay. It’s at times like this that you don’t want the season to end. The winning ticket didn’t make up for the many weeks of losses, but it sure helps. I backed Milwaukee on the moneyline against Philly and that one cost me a little bit since the Bucks closed at -200. They covered the spread, too, which would have put more money in my pocket, but as they say hindsight is 20/20. My two Western Conference picks came through with Denver minus Nikola Jokic beating Golden State. Despite leading the West and being the second-best home team in the NBA the Nuggets got 6-points. The winning ticket was complete when Phoenix went on the road and covered the 5-point spread against OKC. The Suns won their first seven games with Kevin Durant in the lineup going 6-1 ATS.

I didn’t bet a total last week and produced a winning ticket, coincidence? Likely not and seeing what the Spurs and Mavs have done all season is a good reason to go back to the total. In three previous games the teams averaged 258 points easily cashing the OVER each time. In fact the OVER is 5-0 in the last five meetings. And it doesn’t appear as though anything’s going to change. The Spurs are a mess defensively with teams averaging nearly 123 points against them. In 11 games since Mar. 15 the Spurs allowed more than their average in eight of them. A late season collapse could cost Dallas a play-in spot so there could be plenty at stake in this one.
Just from the standpoint of gaining confidence entering the postseason this is a big game for Cleveland. The Cavs already hit the 50-win mark and secured their first playoff berth since LeBron James left town. That’s not enough, though, since the Cavs are still being overlooked in the East. There’s no better way to go into the playoffs than hot and the Cavs were scorching against the Hornets in three earlier encounters. Cleveland won them all scoring a lot of points in doing so. I also thought about backing the OVER in a same-game parlay but instead settled on the Cavs covering, which they’ve done in 61.5 percent of their home games for the second best cover rate in the NBA.
We could stop at two on our parlay card wager, but where’s the fun in that? Sure the odds are attractive and a two-team payout is nice. But just one more win makes it look and feel so much better. So lastly, or maybe for starters since the game is played before the others, I’m backing the Celtics against the spread in their matchup with Atlanta. A rough spell in early March knocked Boston from the top of the East standings. Like they’ve done all season, though, the Celtics responded by winning nine of 12 games with payouts in eight of them. They’ve also handled the Hawks twice on the road and should continue their dominance in the Garden.
