Despite losing to Charlotte on Tuesday night, the New York Knicks are one of the hottest teams in the NBA. Prior to that setback the Knickerbockers had won nine games in a row and 11 of their last 12 while going 10-1-1 ATS in that span catapulting up the Eastern Conference standings. So, are they a lock to take down the Lakers on Sunday? The last game on the March 12 schedule is also nationally televised and with two storied franchises battling the contest will get plenty of action. This is one game included on my Sunday NBA parlay and I’ll tell you why LA is worth backing. The slate is light with just six games, but some intriguing matchups make for a good parlay. I’ve done well on individual picks going 6-3 over the last few weeks, but I’ve yet to hit all winners on a single ticket. Here’s hoping that changes on Sunday.

Denver Nuggets
Oklahoma City
LA Lakers
Payout: $100 to win $595
I feel confident about my parlay picks for Sunday, but I also had a good feeling last week and the week before that and we saw how those turned out. It isn’t easy hitting a multi-team winner, which is why the payout at sportsbooks is so good. Backing the Nuggets at home is a strong play since they have the best home record in the NBA. A win over Toronto on Monday was their 30th in 34 games putting them at 24-1 in the last 25 home games. They are beatable, though, as the Bulls showed on Wednesday handing Denver a 117-96 loss in the Mile High City.
That will only make Nikola Jokic and teammates bitter as they look to start a new streak Sunday against Brooklyn. Jokic is averaging 24.3 points, 11.8 rebounds and 10.0 assists for the Western Conference leaders, who have one of the most efficient offenses in the NBA. The Nuggets lead the league in field goal percentage and have the second-best cover rate at home at 64.7 percent. Though they traded Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, the Nets are still winning games. Recently they beat Houston and Charlotte proving they are better than the bottom feeders. Denver is just the opposite.
Just about everyone has beaten up on San Antonio this season and that includes Oklahoma City. OKC hasn’t tanked rather they’ve surprised a lot of people by staying within spitting distance of a play-in spot. I’d like the Thunder even more if leading scorer Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who averages 31.2 points, plays. Still, OKC averaged nearly 125 points in two earlier cover wins over the Spurs with strong games from Jalen Williams and Tre Mann. And with Josh Giddey and Lu Dort emerging as leaders San Antonio’s NBA worst scoring defense will be tested.
I mentioned the Knicks in the opener with their recent nine-game winning streak pushing them closer to a top four seed in the East. That run of success ended with a 112-105 loss to Charlotte on Tuesday ahead of their four-game trip out west. It’s hard having a long road trip, both in terms of length and distance, so late in the season and the Knicks start the excursion fast with the matchup against the Lakers their third game in four nights.
It doesn’t matter that the previous game the night before is in the same building and no travel is involved, the Knicks will be a fatigued club after battling other teams pushing for the postseason. They start the trip having split their first 22 games against the Western Conference with a majority of those in MSG. One of them was a 129-123 overtime loss to the Lakers on Jan. 31 with LA winning outright as a 2-point dog.
