A potential preview of the NBA Finals is one of seven games on the schedule for Thursday, March 7 for bettors to build a winning NBA parlay on. The Boston Celtics are the O’Brien Trophy favorites heading into the home stretch of the season with the defending champion Denver Nuggets close behind. The two square off in the Mile High City at 10 p.m. ET in the second game of a TNT double header. Boston swept a recent three-game homestand with a 52-point win over Golden State, their 11th straight victory overall in which they earned payouts in the last six. The Celtics own the best record in the NBA and it isn’t even close, but they have been a risky bet going just 30-27-3 against the NBA betting line.
The opening TNT matchup pits a pair of teams looking to reach the top six in their respective conference when the Miami Heat visit Dallas. It must be getting close to playoff time since the Heat have turned up the flame winning eight of their last 10 games after a 126-120 victory over Utah. Their only losses in that span were to Boston and Denver by a combined 10 points. Miami failed to cover the 9-point spread against the Jazz ending a streak of nine consecutive payouts, but they are a profitable road team covering the line in 60 percent of their away games.

Once again I came close to winning my NBA parlay last week needing only a cover from OKC to cash out the hefty payday. Not only did the Thunder lose the game they were humiliated by San Antonio 132-118 as an 11-point road favorite. I have had success with my individual picks the last few weeks but haven’t put a winning parlay together. The Bucks have caught fire earning payout over Charlotte and while Washington is a disaster in the standings they have payouts in over 59 percent of their road games, covering against the Lakers. Still, it wasn’t enough.
On to Thursday I go targeting Minnesota in its matchup with Indiana. The Wolves hit a little rough patch losing consecutive games and falling out of first place in the Western Conference, but their defense hasn’t left them, and as we know defense wins championships. A little offense helps and that’s been the sticking point with the Wolves, though they have capable scorers led by Anthony Edwards and Karl Anthony Towns, who each average more than 22 points. The duo combined for 77 points in a 127-109 payout win over the Pacers in December and I’m backing them again.
It’s hard to pinpoint deficiencies in a team that’s won 80 percent of its games, but here goes. The Celtics are just 2-3 against teams in the Northwest Division with one of those setbacks to the Nuggets that ended Boston’s 20-game home winning streak. And the Nuggets are playing well behind two-time MVP Nikola Jokic beating the Lakers on Saturday 124-114 for their sixth straight with five paydays in their last six games. Jokic had 34 points and Jamal Murray scored 35 in a 102=100 win in Boston in mid-January.
I’m not going to use their 52-point loss in Boston against them since it is only one game. I’ll call that a blip on the radar of the Golden State Warriors, who won 11 of 13 games before that debacle. And during that stretch the Dubs were a money-grabbing machine with going 11-2 against the spread. They are back home after a successful road trip and play the Bulls in the second game of a back-to-back, but I’m still backing the Dubs, who got 57 points and 13 triples combined from Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson in a 140-131 payout in Chicago in January.
