With the college football season over and the NFL winding down, it’s time for the NBA to take center stage, and there’s no shortage of interesting matchups on Saturday as the league hits the midway point in its season. Thus far the season has been a bit surprising. The defending champs and overwhelming favorite to topple the field again, the Golden State Warriors have struggled by their standards, though they appear to be over the drama that rocked them earlier in the year.
The Dubs are tied for the most wins in the congested Western Conference but they trail Denver by a couple of games in the loss column. The Nuggets will look to extend their lead when they visit the Phoenix Suns Saturday night as part of an eight-game NBA slate. The top four teams in the Eastern Conference will take Saturday off leaving the Boston Celtics an opportunity to pick up some ground. A team meeting last month cleared the air in the Cs locker room and the team responded by winning seven of nine. After sweeping a four-game homestand Boston hits the road to the Sunshine State for a tussle with Orlando.
The most anticipated game of the day takes place in Los Angeles when the Pistons visit the Clippers. This matchup wouldn’t normally raise eyebrows, but it is Blake Griffin’s first matchup in LA against his former team since last season’s trade.

NBA Saturday Best Bets
Boston Celtics at Orlando Magic
The Celtics have been on a roll going 7-2 straight up and against the NBA betting line in their last nine games, and they’re looking a lot like the team many projected to win the East at the start of the year. Getting bodies back in the lineup has helped and Gordon Hayward is finally starting to look comfortable in Boston green. They’ve done a lot of damage on the parquet floor and look to improve on a lackluster road mark, but winning four straight in the Garden will propel them to better things.
The toughest game to play is the first home contest after a lengthy road trip, and the Magic just concluded a six-game excursion with a tilt in every time zone. They also lost five of those matchups and will be a wreck on Saturday. Boston has turned up the defensive pressure and Orlando failed to top 96 points in its last three. The best bet here is the Celtics covering the NBA betting while playing below the total.
Detroit Pistons at Los Angeles Clippers
The return of Griffin to Staples Center isn’t going to be enough to snap Detroit from a funk that’s extended for over a month. Following a victory over the Warriors on Dec. 1 that put them at 13-7, the Pistons have lost 15 of 19 while going 5-13-1 against the line.
The Clips have been a nice surprise this season as they remain within striking distance of the Warriors in the Pacific Division. They’ve won seven of 10 and they are a good home team with a 14-6 SU and 13-7 ATS ledger. The Clips will be laying points in this one and that’s good news for backers since they are 17-7 against the spread as a favorite.
New Orleans Pelicans at Minnesota Timberwolves
It doesn’t matter where these teams play they typically score a lot of points. Over the last 13 meetings they’ve cashed the over 10 times, and the Wolves have been freed from the shackles of former coach Tom Thibodeau. In their first game under interim Ryan Saunders, the Wolves posted a big road win, knocking off OKC 119-117. Apparently Andrew Wiggins is fine with the change as he dropped 40 points and the Wolves cashed the over for the 10th time in 11 games.
The Pels can score the basketball, too. They hammered the Cavs with a 140-point outing last time out and they are on a heater of their own cashing the over in four of five overall and four in a row on the road. The best bet here is to play the over on the betting lines at BookMaker.eu.
