The Los Angeles Clippers were a nice story last season, winning more games than expected. The expectations have been ramped up heading into 2019-20, as they are now the team to beat in the NBA. Los Angeles added Kawhi Leonard and Paul George this offseason, but even as the title favorites, winning the Pacific Division is not a guarantee. This is the best division in basketball heading into the season as it also boasts the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors.

Pacific Division Odds Analysis
The Clippers are pegged as the team to beat, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see this division remain competitive all year long. Leonard led the Toronto Raptors to a championship a season ago and then headed to the Clippers in free agency. That move alone would have put the team among the NBA’s finest, and then it was able to engineer a trade to add George to the mix. The Clippers still have some good pieces left over from last year’s squad, including point guard Patrick Beverly and sixth man extraordinaire Lou Williams. The center position could be a slight issue but this team is talented enough to overcome it.
The Lakers fell on their face a year ago. The arrival of LeBron James was expected to boost the team into immediate contention, but it all came unraveled after a fast start. James got hurt a year ago and chemistry issues led to the team missing the playoffs. That is all in the rearview mirror, as the Lakers made a blockbuster trade for Anthony Davis to give themselves arguably the best duo of players in the NBA. Kyle Kuzma is the third weapon on this team and the Lakers added a lot of notable veterans to round out the roster. It will be interesting to see how everything meshes, but the talent is undeniable.
The Golden State Warriors have been the class of the Pacific Division and the NBA in general for more than a half-decade, but their incredible run could be over. Kevin Durant left the team in free agency, while Klay Thompson is expected to miss a huge chunk of this season with a torn ACL. Steph Curry and Draymond Green will do their best to keep the dynasty alive, and Golden State added an intriguing talent this offseason in D’Angelo Russell, but the oddsmakers have made them a distant third option to win the Pacific in 2019-20.
The Sacramento Kings made some strides a year ago by competing for a playoff berth for much of the year, and D’Aaron Fox and Marvin Bagley are a nice duo for this team. However, the roster is still young and not talented enough to compete with the Pacific Division’s juggernaut week in and week out.
The Phoenix Suns are expected to finish last in the division once again. Devin Booker is a star and Deandre Ayton and Ricky Rubio should give him some support, but the defense and depth are not there. The Suns are hoping to get on the right path, but even if everything goes right, they won’t be able to hang with the Clippers, Lakers and Warriors.
This is an interesting division, with plenty of star power and moving pieces. The Clippers make sense as the team to beat, but these are pretty nice odds for the Warriors. Curry is still one of the best players in the league and the team has a great coach in Steve Kerr. Golden State may not be done winning division titles quite yet.
NBA Pick: Golden State Warriors to win the Pacific Division at +415 odds
