We spent the entire second episode of the final season of Game of Thrones in Winterfell. It was the first time that an entire episode was spent in one location, and it’s understandable why that happened considering the show is tying together a lot of story arcs. We know what is to come too. There were no major character deaths for the second straight episode as the show’s creators gave us one last chance to see our favorite people before the third episode ‘Battle of Winterfell’ leads to a lot of the cast dead or zombified. Along those lines, there haven’t been big changes in the betting odds for the major props revolving around the last season of Game of Thrones.
Who Will Rule Westeros at the End of Season Eight?
Jon Snow +275
Bran Stark +400
Sansa Stark +450
Daenerys Targaryen +500
Gendry +500
The Night King +800
Arya Stark +800
Tyrion Lannister +900
Varys +1600
Samwell Tarly +1600
Euron Greyjoy +2800
Jaime Lannister +3300
Davos +5000
There has been a little bit of movement at the bottom of this list, but there was nothing too important to shift the odds a lot heading into the third episode of the final season of Game of Thrones.
The biggest plot development was Jon Snow revealing to Daenerys that he was not Ned Stark’s child, but that he was Aegon Targaryen, son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark. The revelation gives him a claim to the Iron Throne, and it’s one that Daenerys did not want to believe. His loyalties are now a bit uncertain towards her, and many will believe that he has a stronger claim to the throne than her.
That has led to Daenerys’ odds to be on the Iron Throne falling. Now, three Stark children are the three favorites to rule Westeros at the end of the series with Jon Snow leading the way.
Who Will be the First Character to Die in Season Eight?
Theon Greyjoy +450
Jaime Lannister +500
Tormund Giantsbane +600
Jorah Mormont +800
The Hound +800
Brienne +1200
Euron Greyjoy +1200
The Mountain +1200
Gendry +1400
Davos Seaworth +1600
Bronn +2000
Arya Stark +2500
Samwell Tarly +2500
Cersei Lannister +3300
Varys +3300
Sansa Stark +4000
The Night King +4000
Tyrion Lannister +4000
Yara Greyjoy +4000
Daenerys Targaryen +5000
Bran Stark +6600
Jon Snow +6600
The more interesting movement has been on the first character to die. Jaime Lannister was the favorite to die before the start of the season, and it looked like the early movement on him would prove to be correct after Cersei offered Bronn a king’s ransom to kill Jaime and Tyrion. However, we didn’t see Bronn at all this episode.
With the White Walkers just outside of Winterfell, it seems unlikely that Bronn would kill Jaime right at this moment. It seems far more likely for Bronn to pick off Jaime after the battle that is yet to come provided he survives.
Theon is the far more likely character to die. In the last episode, he volunteered to protect Bran, and that is probably a death sentence. Bran is the main person the Night King is after, and it seems very likely that Theon will die while trying to protect Bran as his redemption story comes full circle. We saw a hint of what’s in store with the lingering camera shots of Theon and Sansa together, and I’d bet that Theon dies this Sunday.
A number of other characters are likely to die this Sunday too. Jorah seems to be a likely candidate as there doesn’t seem to be much else for him to do to advance the story, and Tormund is another one that can go. I think it’s less likely that The Hound or Brienne die in the next episode, as there is still more to be told with their stories.
