After a thrilling weekend across the pond you can expect a more subdued atmosphere this week when the PGA Tour heads to the Twin Cities area of Minnesota for the third playing of the 3M Open. There is a dip in the talent pool with several big names taking the week off following the sixth major of the ‘super season’. Nonetheless we will see a strong field of players at the top of the odds board led by former world No. 1 Dustin Johnson, who enters as the betting favorite for a second straight year. DJ will look to finish what he starts after his WD last year due to injury. Also, another close call in a major didn’t prevent Louis Oosthuizen from making the trip with both featured in several tournament matchups. Visit BookMaker.eu for a complete list of tournament matchup odds when you’re ready to place a wager.

Need to Know
A long time stop on the Champions Tour, TPC Twin Cities was renovated prior to the PGA Tour’s arrival in 2019. The track stretches to 7,431 yards at par 71. And there isn’t a lot of data to work with since the tournament is just in its third year. The Arnold Palmer design features 27 water hazards and a number of bunkers sprinkled throughout. The obstacles shouldn’t impede too much and low scores are expected. Matthew Wolff was 21-under to win the inaugural playing with defending champ Michael Thompson shooting -19 last year. It’s a straightforward layout and staying out of the water is the first step to having success. Ultimately, though, it’s going to come down to who putts the best.
3M Open Matchup Picks
Hank Lebioda +110 vs. Emiliano Grillo
If you haven’t been paying attention Lebioda is becoming a consistent visitor on tournament leaderboards and it would be wise to back him before the betting markets catch up. A T8 in the Deere Classic was his worst finish in three starts, which is saying something. He preceded that with a pair of top-5s in the Travelers and Rocket Mortgage Classic. If recent form and his price weren’t enough how about eight red numbers and a stroke average just over 68 in two previous visits to the Twin Cities.
Louis Oosthuizen +105 vs. Dustin Johnson
This is the marquee matchup on the board for obvious reasons. At first I backed away from Oosthuizen thinking there’s no way he can continue to play at such high level after his third straight podium finish in a major. That has to be somewhat depressing. Then I realized he’s been solid all season with five top-5s among his seven top-10s and he hasn’t missed a cut in 13 straight outings. I’ll take the plus odds on a scorching hot golfer despite recent setbacks.
Tony Finau -120 vs. Patrick Reed
Finau broke out of a mini slump in The Open of all places. He closed with a 67 at Royal St. George’s to grab a share of 15th after two straight MCs and appears to have righted the ship just in time for a visit to layout where he’s been pretty good. Finau has gone below 70 in all eight rounds at TPC Twin Cities with a podium finish last year. He also placed among the top-25 in 2019 so there’s a comfort level on this track.
Stewart Cink -120 vs. Charl Schwartzel
Always a threat, the veteran Cink is showing no signs of letting up despite inconsistent play recently. He missed the cut at The Open, his first in nine starts, which only gave him additional rest ahead of this week. And he’s already a two-time winner this season in fields similar to what he’s up against at TPC Twin Cities. He tops the Tour in par-3 scoring and ranks among the top-10 in GIR percentage giving him an edge this week.
Robert MacIntyre -110 vs. Sergio Garcia
With a pair of top-10s at The Open and a T12 in April at The Masters, MacIntyre has shown golf’s biggest stage isn’t overwhelming. He’s also close to earning temporary membership status giving him added incentive this week. He’s played the weekend in his last five starts with three of those at a major championship. He overcame an opening 72 going 9-under over the last 54 holes to earn a share of eighth at Royal St. George’s, an impressive feat that’s hard to overlook.
