Farmers Insurance Open Golf Matchups - Bet on PGA Tour

Farmers Insurance Open PGA Matchup Odds

Under a normal schedule the final round would fall on the same day as the NFL’s conference championship games. So, to avoid diminished viewership the PGA Tour has once again moved the start of the Farmers Insurance Open up a day to avoid any conflicts with the final round set for Saturday. The full-field of golfers led by outright betting favorite Ludvig Aberg will navigate two courses at Torrey Pines, located in the seaside San Diego suburb of La Jolla. Golfers will navigate the North and South Course at Torrey Pines over the first two days with cut survivors playing the weekend on the more difficult South Course. Matthieu Pavon is back to defend the title he won by one-swing last year for his first PGA Tour victory. He’s joined by two-time FIO winners Jason Day and Brandt Snedeker. Need to Know

To accommodate the full field we’ll see both courses at Torrey Pines in use. Every player will get 18 holes on the North and South Course over the first two days. Those surviving the cut will play the weekend on the more difficult south side, which has an updated length of 7,765 yards, making it the longest in history to host a Tour event. The North Course plays around 500 yards shorter and had a scoring average below 70 last year. Only once in the past 12 years has the winning score been better than 15-under with Justin Rose at -21 in the 2019 edition. The South layout expanded to nearly 7,700 yards in 2001 and additional yardage was added ahead of the 2020 edition. Big hitters typically do well here with the length, but high rough is an obstacle.

Farmers Insurance Open Matchup Picks

Ludvig Aberg +100 vs. Hideki Matsuyama

Aberg was nine swings back of Matsuyama when the two pegged it up at The Sentry so it isn’t surprising to see the odds for this matchup. A different venue means a different outcome and I’m backing Aberg based on his overall body of work. He earned a T5 in Maui giving him three top 10s among five straight top 20 finishes. And he had no problems in his FIO debut finishing with a share of ninth just four shots off the pace.

Will Zalatoris +100 vs. Max Greyserman

Zalatoris appears to be rounding into form after injury issues messed with his career. He followed a strong close to 2024 with a solid start to this season finishing T26 at The Sentry and T12 last week. He’s also had success at this event with two top 10s among three top 15s in his last four visits. That run includes a playoff loss to Luke List in the 2022 edition.

Sahith Theegala +100 vs. Keegan Bradley

It seems as though I oftentimes find myself coming back to Theegala, and why not since he’s been good to me in matchups in the past. He’s struggled for the most part in Hawai’i so I’ll give him a pass, but more difficult layouts bring out the best in him. And he is 3 for 3 at Torrey Pines with a T4 in the 2023 edition making his pick at plus odds a plus.

Harris English -110 vs. Jhonattan Vegas

I’m not confident enough to back him for the outright just yet, but English has proven to be a solid performer in the past one racking up a runner-up, T8 and T14 during a four-start stretch at Torrey Pines. His start to the season hasn’t been the best but his strong close in the fall is enough to put money on him to win this matchup.

Max Homa +110 vs. Taylor Pendrith

A strong history at Torrey Pines that includes a win in 2023 and three other top 20s in his last five starts is good enough for me to back Homa. A T26 at The Sentry was his best finish since last summer and Homa used a stop on the DP World Tour to chisel off some rust earning a T14 at the Nedbank Golf Challenge in December. He was on his way to joining the best golfers on Tour before an unexpected slump, though it looks like he’s working his way back.
