ATT Byron Nelson Preview, Odds and Predictions

ATT Byron Nelson preview Odds

Even though he hasn’t won a tournament in almost a year and can’t hit a putt to save his life, Jordan Spieth is a solid favorite to win this week’s AT&T Byron Nelson. Spieth is listed at odds of +650, and no other player is listed with odds of less than +1400. Only five of the world’s top 25 players in the world are in the field this week. Let’s look at the odds and predictions for the AT&T Byron Nelson.

Odds Analysis

Jordan Spieth +650

I know that Spieth has experience playing Trinity Forest, but as I say every time that Spieth tees it up, he is overvalued. Spieth is the highest ranked player in the field, but he shouldn’t be listed at odds this low. Spieth still has not figured out his putting woes and until he does I am not taking him.

Matt Kuchar +1400

There is no question that Kuchar could get a nice finish, as he has a tie for 28th or better in five of his last six starts, but Kuchar rarely wins and I am not backing him at these odds.

Sergio Garcia +1400

It is hard to get too excited about taking Sergio, as his last three starts are missed cut, missed cut and a 70th place finish. He should like Trinity, as it is a links style course, but I still can’t back Sergio yet, especially as one of the favorites.

Hideki Matsuyama +1900

It is hard to make a case for taking Matsuyama, as he is coming off a missed cut last week. He has not played well since returning from injury. If Matsuyama was healthy he would be a consideration, but we just haven’t seen him playing well since coming back.

Billy Horschel +2100

The defending champ has played well of late with a tie4 for 5th, a tie for 11th and a tie for 37th. The field is not that strong this week and Horschel could contend for the win this week, even though the event is being held at a new course.

Jimmy Walker +2200

I like the chances of Walker this week at these odds. He tied for 2nd last week, so he comes in playing well, and he has always done well in Texas.

Chez Reavie +5600

My longshot this week is Reavie who ranks 21st on the PGA Tour in Shots Gained: Approach. He is ninth on the Tour in proximity.

Course: No one really knows what to expect this week because Trinity Forest Golf Club will be hosting the tournament for the first time. The course is a par 71 that measures 7,380 yards. You might think that because Forest is in the name of the course that trees would line the fairways. That is not the case, as there is actually not a tree on the course. The course is more like a links course than anything else and one of the features of the course is that a double green is used for Holes No. 3 and No. 11. Trinity Forest Golf Club opened in 2016.
