Barbasol Championship Preview, Odds and Predictions

Golf Barbasol Championship Odds

The Barbasol Championship takes a back seat this week to the Open Championship, but the event will get some added publicity, as Brittany Lincicome will become the first woman player in a decade to play a PGA Tour event. The last woman to play a PGA Tour event was Michelle Wie in 2008. No top players are in the field for this tournament and Lincicome is a better player than Wie, so she could give a good showing. Billy Horschel and Chris Kirk lead the field for this week’s event, as both are listed as co-favorites at odds of +1200. Let’s look at the odds and predictions for the Barbasol Championship.

Odds Analysis

Billy Horschel +1200

You have to start this week by looking at Horschel. He is a former FedExCup winner and he already had a PGA Tour win this season. Horschel should be a fan favorite, as he was the SEC Player of the Year in 2007 and in 2009. Horschel has won five times on the PGA Tour and he is one of the two clear standouts in this field.

Chris Kirk +1200

The other standout in this field is Kirk who is one of the top putters on the PGA Tour. He was born in Tennessee and attended college in Georgia, so he will be familiar with the conditions this week. He has won four times on the PGA Tour, including the Viking Classic seven years ago when it was paired opposite the Open.

Joel Dahmen +1600

I really like the way Dahmen is playing right now and he was a winner last week for us in one of the matchups. If either of the two top players falter, Dahmen could be right there to get the win.

Aaron Baddeley +6600

Isn’t this just the type of tournament that Baddeley would win? He never does much of anything in marquee events but then you get an event where the field is weak and eyes are off him and he shows up. He could make a run this week at big odds.

Tom Lovelady +8000

I will throw another big longshot into the mix this week and make it Lovelady. He is a big hitter who should be able to take advantage of the par 5’s. He is fourth on the PGA Tour in driving distance this season. He also ranks highly among this field in birdie average and par-five scoring average. The last time he was in serious contention was in the Dominican Republic when it was an alternate event to the match play event.

Course: Keene Trace GC is a par 72 that measures 7,328 yards. The course is located near Lexington and is one of only two on the PGA Tour that features a closing hole that is a par 3. It is a tough par 3 that goes over water to a large green. Scoring should be good on this course, as it is of a moderate length for a par 72. There are also some par 5’s that should give players eagle opportunities.
