Barracuda Championship Golf Matchups - Bet on PGA Tour

Barracuda Championship Golf Matchups

For those who didn’t qualify for The Open Championship there’s no need to worry. That’s because the PGA Tour scheduled an alternate field event for players to earn valuable FedExCup points with the season nearing an end and to not feel left out. A full field including DP World Tour talent assembles for the fourth straight year in the Sierra Nevada’s at the Tahoe Mountain Club for the Barracuda Championship. As a reminder that since this is the only event on Tour that uses the Modified Stableford scoring system a plus score is good. Points are awarded for how players perform on each hole. The field lacks big names but it won’t be short of matchup wagering options. BookMaker.eu has a complete updated list of matchup odds when you’re ready to place a wager.

Need to Know

After two decades being played in nearby Reno, the Barracuda relocated in 2020 to the Tahoe Mountain Club. Not far from the previous course there is one familiar theme between the two layouts. Both are at high elevation allowing golf balls to fly through the atmosphere. The Old Greenwood Course at TMC is a par 71 that stretches to 7,480 yards. Course length isn’t really a concern since at roughly 6,000 feet above sea level the altitude shortens the course. Those familiar with the layout say it’s perfect for the Stableford scoring system. The layout has three par 5s and as many as three reachable par 4s. Those are important with eagles worth five points and birdies worth two points. Over par scores deduct points with 11 points per round considered the standard. In 2021 Erik van Rooyen scored a record 50 points one year after Richy Werenski won with the fewest points (39). The scoring allows and requires players to be more aggressive, creating a fun and interesting tournament.

Barracuda Championship Matchup Picks

Mark Hubbard -103 vs. Vincent Norrman

This is the kind of tournament where savvy bettors can make some coin. Luck is involved but handicapping golfers not normally in the public eye can go a long way. Hubbard has four top 10s this season with three of them coming since the end of May so he’s on a nice run of form. He collected a T6 at the John Deere Classic and elected against a trip to Scotland last week to stay fresh. At 55th in the FedExCup race he has a chance to improve his standing for a playoff run.

Sam Bennett +129 vs. Taylor Pendrith

Bennett has played well in his brief career and is a big underdog in his matchup. His season started at the Masters when he finished T16 as the low amateur. While he hasn’t finished better in five starts since turning pro Bennett has been consistent making the cut four times. He was T20 in Canada and carded a 66 and 65 at the RMC, but a second round 75 left him with a share of 29th. Still, this is a tournament that is to Bennett’s liking and I’m liking his price.

Justin Suh +129 vs. Beau Hossler

With the elevation and scoring system, the Barracuda is a unique event that also requires players to be unique in their approach. A young player just starting his career, this will be Suh’s fourth appearance at this tournament where he dialed in a T21 in 2020. We could say his game has evolved with strong showings at the U.S. Open and PGA while making the cut in his last six starts. And this is the type of tournament where strong putting can make a difference. And Suh is a strong putter.

Chez Reavie +105 vs. Ryan Palmer

One of the highest ranked players in the field, Reavie emerged from a slump with solid golf over the past few months. Since April he’s 10 of 11 finishing among the top 11 three times to go along with a T25 in the Canadian Open. And that has to be a jolt of confidence for the defending champ, who was one of only two players to finish with more than 40 points.

Patrick Rodgers -120 vs. JJ Spaun

I was hesitant to back Rodgers at this price, but after going over his history at this joint and tournament, I decided what the heck. Overall his game has been inconsistent at best with three straight MCs leading in. However, he’s a fixture in this event going 7 for 7 and he’s racked up a pair of top 20s in two starts at TMC. His success in Modified Stableford scoring just can’t be overlooked, though I came close.
