Joel Dahmen is listed as the favorite to win this week’s Barracuda Championship in Nevada after Beau Hossler pulled out. This event will not have any of the top players in the world in the field, as it is an alternate tournament for those players who didn’t make it into the WGC Bridgestone Invitational. We are coming off a 2-1-1 week with the matchups at the RBC Canadian Open. Let’s look at the odds and picks for this week’s Barracuda Championship.

Barracuda Championship Matchup Picks
Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. This tournament is held at the Montreux Golf & Country Club in Reno, Nevada and is played using the Modified Stableford Scoring system. It is a tree-lined course with about 70 bunkers around the course, but it plays relatively easy. Experience matters on this course, as a number of winners through the years have been over 35 years old including Greg Owen who was 45 and Justin Hicks who was 39.
Shane Lowry -115 vs. Kevin Streelman
It is surprising to see Lowry in an event like this, as he usually is playing in marquee tournaments. He has looked pretty good lately and he fits the profile of someone who could win in Nevada. Lowry has the distance off the tee to get in position to make eagles and birdies and that is how you win this event. I will take him in this matchup against Streelman.
Martin Laird -125 vs. C.T. Pan
If you want a player who has done well on this course in the past then look no farther than Laird. He has top 10 finishes in this event in his last four tries and has never finished worse than seventh. I think he is a nice value in this matchup against Pan, as Laird is just a small favorite.
Alex Cejka -115 vs. Matt Jones
It definitely helps the cause of Cejka that he lives in Nevada and has a good knowledge of the course. He has played well in Nevada in the past with two runner-up finishes at TPC Summerlin. Cejka has played well in front of friends and family in the past and I expect him to play well this week and we get him at a short price against Jones.
Graeme McDowell -120 vs. Johnson Wagner
If we are looking for a player with experience to win this event then it is hard to ignore McDowell. He has been playing a lot more in the U.S. this season than in the past and he could be in the mix this week. It is usually all or nothing for Wagner, so this matchup should be over one way or another by Saturday. I will lay the small price and take McDowell.
