BMW Championship PGA Odds

The second leg of the FedExCup Playoffs is the BMW Championship this week in Colorado where the top 50 players in the FedExCup standings will look to advance to next week’s TOUR Championship. Just 30 players will make it to next week in Atlanta, so the pressure will be intense this week. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is again favored, but he has no concerns about making it to next week, nor do any of the top players in the standings. What will concern Scheffler this week is the possibility that Xander Schauffele could catch him. Schauffele is the only player who can catch Scheffler and start in first place for next week’s TOUR Championship. To do that, Schauffele has to win this week. While the battle between Scheffler and Schauffele will be interesting, the spotlight will be on players trying to make it into the Top 30 for next week. That should make for an exciting BMW Championship. BookMaker.eu has a complete updated list of betting odds when you’re ready to make a wager.

Odds Analysis

Patrick Cantlay +2200

Cantlay is coming off a strong weekend, as he shot 66 and 66 to finish 12th in Memphis. He looks to be rounding into top form and he has played well in the past on courses designed by Jack Nicklaus, winning at Muirfield Village and finishing second twice in the Shriners. There are not many players who can put up low numbers to stay with Scheffler and Schauffele, but Cantlay is one of them when he is playing well.

Tommy Fleetwood +3000

Is this the week where Fleetwood finally gets his first PGA Tour win? He started well at the FedEx St. Jude Championship last week but never really made a move, finishing 22nd. He played well, as he was first in ball-striking, 2nd in GIR and 3rd in approach. He just needs to get his putter going, as he was last in the field. I expect him to putt better this week and be in contention.

Justin Thomas +4800

There was a lot to like about how Thomas played last week, but like Fleetwood, he struggled with the putter. Thomas has been playing well and he was strong from tee-to-green last week, but was 59th in putting. He is a player who has done well in altitude in the past and he is capable of contending this week and we get big odds.

Sahith Theegala +5500

There is always at least one player who comes out of nowhere to get into the mix for the FedExCup title. Last week it was Hideki Matsuyama and this week it could be Theegala. Fitness will be a big key this week in the altitude in Colorado and on a course that demands a lot of walking. I expect Theegala to thrive in the thin air and be in contention.

Will Zalatoris +7200

I’ll throw in one longshot and take Zalatoris who looked good last week with a 12th place finish. He has battled injuries for much of the season but he looked healthy last week. He hit a lot of greens last week and his first pro win came in Colorado in 2020. I give him a shot this week and his odds are attractive.

Course: Castle Pines Golf Club – 8,130 yards, Par 72

Castle Pines will be the longest course in PGA Tour history at more than 8,000 yards, but it should be noted that the ball flies farther in the thin air of Colorado. Most people say that the increased altitude adds 10% of distance to the shots. That would mean the course is equivalent to playing 7,350 yards at sea level and that is pretty much the standard PGA Tour course length. For example, the par 5 first hole at Castle Pines will be listed at 659 yards, but that is the equivalent of 599-yards at sea level. And there is a 100-foot drop from tee to green on the hole. The course is located about 27 miles south of downtown Denver.
