The second alternate field tournament of the season takes place this week at the Corales Puntacana Championship, the only PGA Tour event held in the Dominican Republic. With most of the top players competing at the WGC, the field is open for recent Korn Ferry Tour grads to emerge. In addition the field has past winners in defending champ Chad Ramey, 2021 winner Joel Dahmen and 2018 winner Brice Garnett. The tournament debuted in 2016 and was part of the KFT for two years. Dominic Bozzelli won the inaugural event and is in on a sponsorship exemption. After finishing fifth at the Valspar, Wyndham Clark is the prohibitive favorite with a quartet of players leading the next tier of favorites. At No. 82 in the OWGR Thomas Detry is the highest ranked player meaning the field is wide open. Visit BookMaker.eu for a complete updated list of betting odds when you’re ready to make a wager.

Odds Analysis
Ryan Brehm +12500
If you believe lightning can strike twice throwing down on Brehm could be beneficial. It’s been a struggle for him this year with 14 MCs in 18 starts, but a year ago in the alternate field Puerto Rico Open Brehm was king shooting 20-under for his first Tour victory. In fact his best results have been in tournaments with a field lacking star power and at his current price dropping a few bucks might be worth the investment.
Joel Dahmen +1800
Another player who could benefit from a weaker field is Dahmen, and the event couldn’t have come at a better time for him. A force in the fall portion of the schedule with three top 10s among his six top 20s, things took a turn for the worst when the calendar changed. He’s finished outside the top 40 in four starts with two MCs. In his only Corales start two years ago Dahmen finished a shot ahead of the field for his first career Tour victory.
Thomas Detry +1800
Detry was in the money in 14 consecutive worldwide starts until a MC at THE PLAYERS. That blip shouldn’t be a mark against him and oddsmakers agree putting him among a group as the second favorite. He’s played and done well against more recognizable competition with a runner-up at the Bermuda Championship and three additional top 20s. His lone start at Corales resulted in a top 15 two years ago.
Kramer Hickok +3500
Whatever affected Hickok earlier in the season seems to have been resolved, which is good for him and for those looking to wager on him. After eight straight MCs, Hickok has now gone four starts in a row with a payout. He needs to be more consistent with a bad round or two leading to lower finishes, but placing among the top 45 at THE PLAYERS and Valspar is an encouraging sign. He’s also 3 for 3 at Corales finishing among the top 21 each time.
Ben Martin +3000
Martin is certainly worth a look given his recent form and inviting price. Four straight payouts, including a top 5 at the Honda Classic has to be a confidence booster. Martin also recorded a T13 at Pebble Beach and played the weekend at THE PLAYERS and Valspar. He also had a strong showing at Corales last year with four sub-par rounds to finish one swing off the lead improving on a top 10 from the year before. I feel as though he’s a sneaky good pick this week.
Course: Corales Course – 7,670 yards, Par 72
The Corales Course at Puntacana Resort and Club is long measuring 7,670 yards, but it is forgiving with wide fairways, rough that is more of a nuisance and slow greens. The field has hit more than 70 percent of fairways in the last five Tour events here making this a second shot and short game sprint all but eliminating distance off the tee. Hitting the ball long and straight does have its advantages, though. We’ve seen low scores in the past with the first two winners at 20-under or better when it was a Korn Ferry Tour event. The next three winners each carded 18-under while Ramey was 17-under last year. The tournament has also had drama with each of the past four winners finishing a single shot ahead of the field. The course is nestled along the coast with breathtaking views and we typically see winds come into play.
