For those players not ranked high enough to get an invitation to the WGC, the PGA Tour has the alternate field Corales Puntacana Championship, the only event held in the Dominican Republic, on this week’s schedule. With the top players in the world in Texas, the field is wide open for an unheralded winner to emerge, and there are plenty of possibilities. Former major champions Graeme McDowell, who also won here in 2019, Jimmy Walker and Danny Willett are set to peg it up. In fact, every past winner of this tournament is included in the field with Joel Dahmen looking to become the first repeat champion and two-time winner. The tournament debuted in 2016 and was part of the Korn Ferry Tour for two years. Visit BookMaker.eu for a complete updated list of betting odds when you’re ready to make a wager.

Odds Analysis
Nicolai Hojgaard +3500
Hojgaard has had plenty of success on the DP World Tour and he’s hoping to make the transition to the PGA side. This is a gradual step in the right direction with a field more like a DP Tour event. Just last month Hojgaard cruised to a 4-shot victory in the UAE for his second DP Tour title showing the resilience of someone who’s been around much longer. You probably can’t go wrong throwing down on twin brother Rasmus, who’s also made a name for himself in Europe.
Graeme McDowell +4000
If you’re looking to back a proven veteran winner McDowell is a good option. A former major champion, McDowell is also a past winner of this event with the last of his four PGA titles coming here in 2019. He also has an additional top-5 in his four lifetime starts at Corales. Most recently he claimed a T13 in the API a few weeks ago and comes at a good price for a player with a proven track record.
Doc Redman +3000
Redman has hung around in a majority of starts this season just unable to crack the top half of the leaderboard. Competing in a field lacking some of the best players is actually an advantage. He is debuting in this event and Corales can be a problem for first timers, but Redman has the accuracy off the tee and the short game to handle the biggest obstacles. He’s made the cut in five of his last six starts and has been consistent, just not good enough. That could change this week.
Jhonattan Vegas +1600
I don’t always back the favorite especially in a field that can produce an outright winner from further down the odds board. But it’s also a chance for those at the top of the list to make a move of their own. Vegas has a decent price for the outright favorite and he comes in off a T27 in the Valspar Championship where he carded an opening 64. He’s been consistent going 8 of 11 this season with a pair of top-25s and should benefit from the watered down field.
Brandon Wu +5500
Graduated from the Korn Ferry Tour a few years ago and looks to make an impact on the PGA side. Wu’s done well in the alternate field Puerto Rico Open with a T3 last year and a T7 just a few weeks ago. He followed up his most recent PRO effort with a T33 at the Valspar Championship giving him plenty of confidence heading into this week.
Course: Corales Course – 7,670 yards, Par 72
The Corales Course at Puntacana Resort and Club is long measuring 7,670 yards, but it is forgiving with wide fairways, rough that is more or a nuisance and slow greens. The field has hit more than 70 percent of fairways in the last four Tour events here making this a second shot and short game sprint all but eliminating distance off the tee. Hitting the ball long and straight does have its advantages, though. We’ve seen low scores in the past with the first two winners at 20-under or better when it was a KFT event. The next three winners each carded 18-under while Dahmen battled the elements last year to win at 12-under. The course is nestled along the coast with breathtaking views and we typically see winds come into play.
