The FedExCup Playoffs continue this week with the Dell Technologies Championship beginning on Friday. This event that concludes on Labor Day has been very predictive in terms of the FedExCup winner, as three of the last five winners at TPC Boston have ended up winning the FedExCup. Odds Analysis
Dustin Johnson +900
The World No. 1 is favored again this week, but his game still seems a little off. He is capable of turning it on at any moment, but he is overvalued at these odds.
Justin Thomas +1000
Thomas won this event last year and it propelled him on to a FedExCup title. He has three top ten finishes in his last three events including a win. It would not be a surprise to see him win this event for the second straight year.
Brooks Koepka +1200
Koepka is starting to get some respect from the oddsmakers, but it is worth noting that he has won only one tournament other than a major in his career. I think that will eventually change, but he may be getting too much respect in terms of the golf odds this week.
Jason Day +1600
I like the game of Day, but the reality is that he has just one top ten finish in his last seven tournaments. I can’t take him at odds this low.
Jordan Spieth +2000
Spieth nearly won this event a year ago but he played poorly on the back nine and lost the tournament to Thomas. I don’t know how you can back Spieth regardless of the odds, as he simply is not a confident player right now and he has no wins this season.
Rory McIlroy +2000
Rory took last week off to work on his game. It is not like his game needed a ton of work, as he had two top ten finishes in his last three starts, but Rory wants to be the best. I think he has a lot of value at these odds. He won at TPC Boston two years ago and I give him a big chance this week.
Tiger Woods +2000
I understand that the public loves Tiger and continues to bet him, but the reality is that he hasn’t won a tournament since 2013. I do think he will win again, but I don’t think it will come against a full field of top players.
Webb Simpson +4000
There are a lot of good longshots this week, as a number of players could hit at big odds. I will go with Simpson who is up to No. 17 in the world.
Course: TPC Boston is a par 71 that measures 7,342 yards. It opened in 2002 and was redesigned in 2007. The course has hosted this event since 2003 and features the only scheduled Monday finish on the PGA Tour. Justin Thomas won on this course last year and avoided mistakes, making just two bogeys all week.
