A solid field is assembled this week in Texas for the Fort Worth Invitational, where experience is very important. The only player under the age of 30 to win this event since 2001 was Jordan Spieth in 2016. Spieth is listed as the favorite to win the tournament this year, but putting woes make Spieth a risky bet. We have gone 7-3 the last two week’s with the matchup picks on the PGA Tour. Let’s look at the odds and picks for this week’s Fort Worth Invitational.

Fort Worth Invitational Matchup Picks
Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. Winning at Colonial requires experience, as other than Jordan Spieth who was 22-years old when he won the title in 2016, all of the other winners since 2001 were at least 30-years old. Almost all winners at Colonial have won at least once somewhere else, as Sergio Garcia was the last player to make this his debut win in 2001. Putting will be a big key this week as the bentgrass greens could run 12 on the Stimpmeter.
Jon Rahm +110 vs. Jordan Spieth
I say every week that Spieth is overvalued. One of our only two losses last week in the matchups was going against Spieth, as Kuchar didn’t show up and play well. I will go against Spieth again this week and this time do it with a strong player in Rahm who finished tied for 2nd in this event a year ago.
Chesson Hadley -115 vs. Kevin Na
One of my favorite matchup players this season has been Hadley and I will take him again this week. He has six straight top 20 finishes overall and he tied for 24th in this event three years ago. I will take Hadley at the short price.
Xander Schauffele +115 vs. Emiliano Grillo
Another one of my matchup stars this season has been Schauffele. He usually goes under the radar but usually plays well. It has been a good season for Grillo, but Schauffele is still the better player and we get Schauffele at plus money in this matchup.
Kevin Kisner +105 vs. Bryson DeChambeau
The defending champion has averaged 67.67 in his last 12 rounds on this course. Putting is a huge key at Colonial and Kisner is 12th on the PGA Tour in strokes gained: putting. I will take him at plus money in this matchup against a player in DeChambeau who has yet to shoot and under par round at Colonial.
Jimmy Walker -115 vs. Adam Scott
Walker has three straight top 10 finishes and he loves playing in Texas. Scott is just a big name now and not a big player, as he hasn’t contended for a win in a while. I will take Walker in this matchup.
